Mixed bag!

Not a great performance today. The positives are, we won, Shaughnessy had another good game and Saiz And Pablo are a joy to watch.
More concerning is the situation of Pontus not playing even though he was fit! And his absence did create uncertainty in our box. I do wonder if it's a case of taking him down a peg or two. Hope not.
Felix makes me nervous with his lack of command with crosses. He was also at fault for their second goal. He has been lucky to have a great defence in front of him so far but fails to impress overall. We may be calling on Lonergan before too long!

Think Wiedwald is fine with the ball at his feet. Kept being put under needless pressure by balls being played back to him when defenders et al should be looking to find space further forward. Didn't think he did much wrong aside for the goal.

Jansson was clearly rested. Hamstring injuries aren't something you just come back from a week later. Give him until next weekend and he could be good to go.

Lubo, is fine as long as he doesn't have to pass it further than 30 yards

Well I hope that it was just a case of resting Pontus but TC didn't say that in his interview afterwards.
As to Felix, I am well aware that TC sees him as fitting into the playing the ball out from the back model.Nevertheless, doesn't inspire with his flapping at crosses or in some cases not coming out for them. Anyway I don't want to be a party pooper. Just some observations. Just saying!

He made one really good catch from a cross in the second half, and I don't think he would have collected the ball for McGoldrick's goal.

From my seat in the Kop, McGoldrick's goal came from him losing his marker and arriving with no defenders near him - I noticed it was Shaughnessy who marked him the corner after, but don't know whether it was he who lost him for the goal.

I like the playing out from the back, but it does cause panic when they try and do it even whilst then opposition is pressing high and there were occasions when I felt we'd have been safer simply to hit it long down the wings, but it's a great way of playing if we can learn when and when not to do so.

As others have said, felt we deserved the win and probably should have put them away - definitely chances before they got their second goal - but overall, happy we held on.

And whilst they will feel they should have had something from the game, don't forget they were played off the park for fifteen minutes up to our first goal, could hardly get the ball out of their half. But as soon as we scored, we seemed to sit back and let them dominate. Frustrating in the extreme!

We shaded the game - just.

We struggled with set-pieces big time. Our best two set-piece defenders of recent were missing - Pontus Jansson and Chris Wood. Lasogga may be replacing Woods goals upfront but defensively he adds nothing. Was amazed to see him outside the box at corners when he was our third tallest outfield player. Huge frustration that given we were struggling we gifted them too many crossing opportunites - O'Kane passing the ball out for a corner, Cooper needless foul near the corner spot and couple of clearances that could have been better aimed for throw-ins rather than corners. Having Saiz, O'Kane, Aliojski, Anita and Pablo on the field makes us a really tiny team. With a flappy goalkeeper to boot if i was an opposition manager i would play my biggest 11 and kick Leeds about.

The goalkeeping errors cancelled one another out but that was a shocker from Wiedwald.

Lasoggas and Phillip's goals were superb finishes thankfully.

Saiz was the man who could have wrapped up the game but he wanted to smoke a cigar before shooting both times.

Ipswich took 20 minutes too long before realising by pushing up they could cause panic to our play from the back policy. I do wonder what opposition managers do all week. We should have adjusted a little quicker to this.

Just watched the highlights from the Millwall game and Wiedwald parried the ball into dangerous areas a few times during that match as well. It's an Achilles heel: smack it hard at him and make sure someone's there for the rebound.

Though, I seem to remember Martyn used to have a tendency to do that as well, and he didn't turn out too badly.

Mcgoldrick was free on the edge of the area he had a freee run & header as far as I could see no one picked him up & he was their best player imo

and wiedwald 100% at fault for their second, cut the silly mistakes , mark up properly and they wouldn't have got those 2 goals.....

Good result but you'd have to be deluded to think we'll win promotion playing how we are. Like Eddie said over previous seasons, performances will eventually catch up with ya. See March onwards last season.
After going a goal in front at home whilst on top, we should have been able to control the game, ok sometime s you'll concede against the run of the play, but letting both Birmingham and Ipswich into the game like we did is criminal. Even at 3-1, real top sides would have seen that out comfortably, not let them straight back in with mistakes like that.

Gotta step it up again on Tuesday.
