Morata and Lukaku

Over the summer we were heavily linked with Morata and at first I was aghast - I wanted Lukaku, the guy I’d spent years trying to convince our supporters was the real deal. Not Morata, who just didn’t have the ‘X factor’. But as I looked into his career a bit more and did a bit of research I was very happy for him to join us had Chelsea snapped up Lukaku.

As it turned out, both clubs got the players but in a different order and it’s fair to say both are a roaring success. The Chelsea fans and the United fans often have, shall we say, ‘issues’ with each other on these boards but for once, we can both be happy we have a couple of top strikers.

Long may it continue (except not for Morata when we play each other) 🍺

The comparison between Lukaku and Morata is an interesting one and will get a lot of coverage this season.

Judging by his celebrations Lukaku seems to be playing with a lot of pressure on him. He will need to relax especially as the big games approach.More is expected out of him as compared to Morata hence he will have to endure quite a bit this season.

As a United fan, Morata is easily the better of the two strikers all round.

I'm happy with Lukaku, we just need him to be the reason we win games, not make score lines look flattering by adding the third or fourth goal to games we're winning/

Too early to say
But happy with Morata. Thought he would be a Torres.

He basically is. Just the Torres we wished we got instead.

Lukaku was ALWAYS the better option because he demonstrated his appropriateness in the relevant league.

Maybe united could take Morata next season (if he proves good enough) to join Mata and Matic as the last part of a 3 ms robbery

I'm delighted we've got Lukaku. I love his passion - it just seems to mean a lot to him. Yes, he loses possession sometimes but he's always a handful and he's scoring goals. I don't care if he's a flat-track bully: we need one.

Morata looks good though.

Good article.

The Lukaku or Morata debate should be closed now. Both of us got the right man. We both won

Mourinho needs to slate the player first before he buys them. It's a process.

Lukaku was the best man for United. You needed a player that would get the goals you needed against the bulk of the league. You were already performing against the other top clubs.

Morata was the best man for us. We needed a player with the X factor to improve us against the top teams, especially with the CL back on the agenda. We were already doing fine against the other clubs.

Neither player would have made as much of an impact with the other club. This really worked out perfectly for both of us, from where I'm sitting.

Lukaku reminds me of Drogba. Technically unrefined but brutally effective.
