Jan Oblak

I think we should go for him in the summer. It was painful to watch Mignolet struggling yesterday. I think Klopp knows the weaknesses in our team after giving those chance after chance. Lovren playing Vardy onside twice and for the second one resulted in the penalty.

We have two positions we need to address in january or the summer.

yeah Oblak would want to leave Atletico and join a Europa league level team . He is well above your class. Should aim for Butland

A shift in tactics might help, but that may blunt your attack a little. So if there isn't a tactical change, you need the players in the middle and the back to be much better.

Err I think you're confused. Arsenal Europa League, Liverpool Champions League. Would you like me to dumb it down for you a little more little buddy or have you grasped it?

Let me know.

Yeah, Keita and VVD would solve that. However that's hopefully next season. For now we need to look at playing Can in the deepest position in my opinion.

Well, here is the strange thing.
During the commentary on Saturday, it was pointed out that LFC have the fewest shots on target against them in the Premiership. Which kind of suggests they’re doing something right.

I’m not really sure what to make of that, but both Carragher and Gerrard seem to think that the defence we have is well capable of defending, and go through periods when they defend very well, but go through other periods where they just lose concentration.

Aside from the thrashing at City, with 10 men, we also have a very good defensive record against the top-half teams.

Don’t really understand it, tbh, there is no explanation which makes consistent sense of LFC’s defensive record.

I think those stats tell the story. We spend most of our time attacking, getting over 20 shots and 70% possession against most teams and therefore face few attempts on our own goal. However these attempts are ending in more goals as we push so high up the pitch, with our full backs forward generally leaving the two centre backs on their own against the counter. Add in offside goals and fouls on the keeper ending in goals against us, it's natural that we concede more goals despite not conceding many shots.

Does that mean the system is working? For me it does. How officials officiate is beyond our control so we can't do anything about that. Would a better defender improve the situation? Definitely, however it still won't stop us conceding goals as the chances we allow are easy chances due to the system. So we either except it and hope improving the odd individual will reduce the goals against or we change the system. I favour the former.

Your theory would explain the stats, but when I try to think of the goals we've conceded so far this season, I'm not sure I can think of any that were on the break, catching our full-backs up-field.

Most of them seem to be from set-pieces or crosses, when all of the defenders are back. Do I have a selective memory, here?...Maybe there's one or two I've forgotten, but I'm not sure I can recall any, on the break...

I think there is a bit of selected memory here but not entirely. These freekicks and corners usually come from a counter.

City push a lot higher on the pitch than us and they concede a few less than we do. Their cb pairing is not better than we have. They have Fernandinho in front of their cb's who shields the defence. At Dortmund he had Bender and was watching him yesterday playing for Leverkusen and he was outstanding..
