Well done Spurs, Chelsea, City & United

It does feel great to be back winning and representing England in the Champions League.

The Spanish domination of the champions league has been going on for far too long. This year I'm backing all the British teams until it's not mentally possible anymore.

Just wanted to congratulate all the other winning teams for getting the job done again this week. Especially Chelsea for getting a difficult away win at Atleti - You've done us all proud lads

P.S Well done to Celtic too!

Can you explain a bit more?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

There's a little explanatory note at the foot of that page I linked:

"The UEFA 10-year club ranking is determined by the UEFA club points in the last 10 years, with a minimum of 20% of the 10-year country ranking. This 10-year club ranking (shown in bold with a gray background) is used for 30% of the CL revenue distribution and 15% of the EL revenue distribution. The yellow lines with country info indicate the lowest possible value for any club of that country."

If you look at the table itself, there's a column named "Title points", where extra points are added according to trophies won. (Those points decrease in value over time, i.e., a title won last season adds more points than a title won 5 seasons ago).

The Uefa coefficient page shows a 5 Year history.

I did not realise 10 year ranking was used to divide moneys. How is other 70pc determined?

I guess most is shared on performance, can't check to tell you right now though.

When it comes to all the coefficient stuff though, Bert Kassies' website is infinitely better than UEFA's own:

https://kassiesa.home.xs4all.nl/bert/uefa/

It displays all the different coefficients (by country, club, rolling basis and individual years), offers a wealth of information, has its own discussion forums and is also really lightweight to boot.

CFC, been looking into your question, and apparently there are four criteria for revenue distribution:

1. Starting fee - a fixed amount paid to all of the teams that qualify for the group stage

2. Actual performances during the competition

3. Individual club coefficient - the results over that 10-year period, plus past silverware

4. Market pool - amount based on how much TV companies pay in each country for CL broadcasting rights and each club's respective ranking within its own pool

PL clubs are comfortably the biggest earners from the TV pool. In 15/16, for example, (according to this interesting SwissRamble article: http://swissramble.blogspot.com.es/2016/11/uefa-champions-league-safe-european-home.html ), "Spain earned the most from the CL overall, with €254 million, followed by England €245 million. Spain’s money though was largely due to success on the pitch with €105 million from prize money - nearly twice as much as England’s €54 million. In contrast, England’s share of the TV pool of €143 million was considerably higher than Spain’s €89 million."

Man City were the top earners that season, ahead of R Madrid, who knocked City out in the semis and went on to win the final.

I don't have the full details for the deal applicable from 2018 to 2021, but apparently it allocates a higher % of revenues to prize money and less to market pool.

Guilty as charged.

But I did already establish I was a fan of the game itself.
