Huddersfield Town 0 v 4 Tottenham Hotspur

Huddersfield Town v Tottenham Hotspur

John Smith’s Stadium, Sat 30 Sep 2017, kick off 12:30pm

So, what do we think, how surreal is this? Huddersfield Town v Tottenham Hotspur! This is the first fixture for Town to play against one of the giants of the Premier League. Should we remain buoyant and expect the lads to play without fear or will the presence of Kane melt the defence? I’ve been looking forward to this encounter, as you know, I’m a Spurs admirer. When Spurs are on it, most teams are unable to handle them and that goes for the big four clubs.

Please don’t judge me or instigate that I’m a Spurs fan. I’m blue and white through and through! I won’t be neutral, I want Town to beat Spurs. The quicker the magical forty points are reached, the better. Hopefully, it is an entertaining match and Town find their feet quickly and get in to the game from the kick off.

Unlocking the Spurs defence is vital, along with having plenty shots and crosses for the forwards to hopefully score. We can’t afford missed opportunities in this fixture. If Town try and sit back and absorb the pressure, the match will be won by the Londoners. If the lads take the match to Spurs, which I suppose most will approve of, then a decent result may be achieved.

Rest assured, Pochettino will not accept any complacency from his players. The Huddersfield Town players have turned a few heads now and the premier league managers will know they have a game on their hands when they face the mighty Terriers. Kane fired in the goals midweek against Apoel Nicosia, scoring a hat-trick. He is a very clinical striker, something Wagner would have addressed with the players in his match preparations.

Spurs currently sit fourth going in to this fixture, Town are edged to eighth; Arsenal beat WBA on Monday evening. The table is beginning to settle down now, if Town can maintain their reasonable form, then we shouldn’t have to mention the dreaded ‘r’ word. Hopefully, the players can find the net more often and ease our fears of a negative goal difference again. I’m quietly confident they will score goals more consistently now. Mounie may take his place after his lay off, but should Depoitre make way for him? Will Wagner go with a two man attack? I doubt it, my only criticism is that the formation played, seems to be the only one Town will play. I think we do need a plan b in our formation and tactics, what do you think?

All things being equal, if Town push hard on Spurs, they may get a draw. Yes, Spurs let a three goal lead slip and only just beat West Ham last week 3-2, but they score goals and frequently. Town have to bag one or two goals to share the points. I doubt a win is achievable, but you never know, Town do the strangest things! Being a Town fan, it’s never a comfortable feeling. I’ve experienced real lows and extreme highs, but I suppose most football fans experience the same thing.

Radical changes to be made or keep on keeping on? Your suggestions please.

Early kick offs can be a drag in the UK, sometimes a rush to get down to the stadium. Here in Perth, they are welcome, no blood shot eyes!

Going in to this match, Town’s form for the last six fixtures is WWDLDD, Spurs is WLDWDW. Both teams have only lost one match, very respectful. Town’s goal difference is two to Spurs’ five, if only missed chances were converted!

Regarding the managers, both are very respected. Their players will run through walls for them; they are young with much more to offer. I would imagine they both will remain in the Premier League, I’d like to think Wagner with Town.

Each of us have a soft spot for other top flight teams, interesting how a few of us have a preference for the London clubs, strange!

Are we up for the challenge, Town and the fans? Are we slightly deluding ourselves or do we have a right to stand proud? Will Saturday 30 Sep 2017 be recorded in Town’s history book as the day the team took on a giant…and won?

Town will do their best to produce a good performance. They will want to do well for the fans and for themselves, it's not everyday the players will be plying their trade amongst some of the best in the world. I’m going to enjoy the match, but I’ll be shouting on the lads loud and proud, come on you blue and white! We’re at Darn’s house, so it’s OK if I wake his neighbours.

Darn, can you crack the secret code? UTT!

Everton 0-1 Burnley.

A 'small' club showing it can be done.

The classy moment from the Huddersfield fans
Football fans can be a tribal bunch, often prioritising their own over any other team. However, when Kane was substituted in the 87th minute he was lavished with an ovation from all corners of the stadium.

Sometimes you just have to tip your hat when you've seen something that's top quality and Pochettino was delighted by the reaction from the home crowd.

"It was fantastic. I am so proud to be a manager in England today, that moment from the Huddersfield fans was fantastic," he said.

"To recognise one of the best players in England, his country love him, that is so important. I enjoyed it a lot. The atmosphere was fantastic, the stadium, everything and it made us very proud to be here in the Premier League and compete in this country.

"I am so happy to manage here in the Premier League."

And apparently the "one season wonder chant" is for Harry Kane, and not us.

Paul Ramsden didn't know this, hence his apparent rant at half time, that didn't go down well with the spurs fans.
