Better or Worse?

Following up from a previous article, thought it would be interesting to see what areas people think we are stronger in, as apposed to last season.

Board/Owner - Bit of a no brainer.

Manager - Not for me. Made a decent start but he's inherited a solid outfit and had full backing of the board, making an abundance of signings. Not done much to show me he's a good manager, yet.

Goalkeeper - No. Green was top 3 keepers in the league last year, ridiculous to ship him out.

Defence - No. We don't have a proper recognised left back, which is pretty astonishing. None of the newbies are better than Bartley at CB.

Midfield - Yes. Saiz looks a great player at this level, and I think shipping Bridcutt out was the correct decision. More options in midfield this year, but the central midfield is still poor.

Strikers - No. Lassoga looks capable, but would you swap him for Wood?

This isn't a Monk v TC debate, can't say 'TC didnt have x and y' because he's signed a shed load of players and been given chance to mould his own side.

Overall, I don't think we've improved on the pitch.

LIW, that's true, but fans also want more attacking football than last season, it's entertainment after all.

Can't be worse than Monk and his negative, boring, brand of anti football.
Fans are flocking back to ER, must be doing something right.

Another myth.

Monk played pragmatic football, and toward the end yes it was negative. But we also put in some superb performances at home (Derby, Brighton spring to mind), performances we haven't matched this season.

People are flocking back because they thought we'd stay near the top and believe in the owner.

They'll soon fade if we slip to mid table.

It's not a myth, last season was dross, well it was for me anyway, the Derby match was a superb performance, still only scored once.
The rest of the season was in general pathetic, void of entertainment.

Did you miss the Burton game? Florest?

Burton and Forest are getting slapped by everyone. No way were they better performances.

Our points have mainly come via bottom 5 opposition, it's telling that we have taken very few points from top half opponents.

You can only play whoever is in front of you.

In my opinion, those who believe we performed better last season have short memories.

You're missing the point.

We are scoring points against the rubbish teams, but we come up short against the better sides.

That's a different point which I am aware of.

Too early in the season to reach any conclusion.

Far too early in the season to judge, many really need to have a reality check.
20 points, some fine attacking football, full houses, I'm certainly much happier than have been for many years.
