Some of the talk about the England match and in particular the available players got me thinking....is football moving further and further away from a style that accommodates a genuine 'Central' midfielder?
To me there's much more division now, between defensive midfielders and attacking midfielders....and very few players occupying that more traditional box to box type role. And thinking about what England have to offer, there's a real dearth in that area - hence Winks getting a callup and bang average players like Henderson getting a starting spot in a crucial game.
It's hard to think of many exciting young prospects coming through who you'd consider a genuine CM isn't it?
The 'death' of the Central Midfielder?

but but Carrick only ever appearance came with Gerrard and Lampard played and the pundits were in awe of Carrick My favourite argument is look at the Man Utd 2008 CL winning side full of english players who barely could even make the England squad let alone be part of the 11 that were part of the failed Euro 2008 qualifiers.

Anyways its interested Gerrard and Lampard have been replaced by Henderson and Alli

interesting not interested. What I never understood about England players who have won nothing or barely anything go to the England squad. Normally players who have 1 good month and play for a midtable club get picked for England.

So the idea that England managers are fools for consistently preferring Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard is misguided. Carrick had chances throughout his career, and little changed. Equally, in less than one year, between May 30, 2009, and May 9, 2010, Lampard scored more goals for club and country than Carrick has in his entire career.
Gerrard took slightly longer — outscoring Carrick in entirety between October 24, 2007 and December 13, 2008. And it wasn’t as if Lampard and Gerrard couldn’t pass or put a tackle in, too.
.......
This is why England fail all the time as they pick kick and rush players ahead of quality. Why else do you think Henderson AOC even Milner get into the England squad. Xavi wouldn't have got into the England squad and likewise Iniesta or Busquets or Alonso in the last 7 or 8 years if they were English as England love poor technical players that can run.

Kante injured and withdrawn.
Sidibe spitting blood on the touchline as well.

No #ENG player completed more take-ons vs. #ISL tonight than Marcus Rashford (3). He came on in the 86th minute...
.........
Considering how dangerous he was for the few minutes he was on, if had 20 minutes he most likely would have won the game. Rashford even took most of the Iceland team on by himself lol.

How bad is Kante?
Must say France looked far from "dominating" at times.
And Belgium just scraped thru.
Think Germany will be favorites again in Russia.
