Goodbye Strachan

3 phases of our qualifying campaign

Phase 1 - Strachan plays his favourites
Fletcher
Bannan
Anya
Fletcher
Martin
Greer

4 points from 4 games

Phase 2 - Strachan plays the in form players
Scotland have fate in own hands

Phase 3 - Strachan plays his favourites
Fletcher
Anya
Bannan
Fletcher
Martin

No coincidence that we threw it away when Strachan reverted to type. In form players completely overlooked

It’s as if Strachan knew it was his last game so played his pals. I thought he had turned a corner in playing the in form players which got us in with a chance of qualifying but alas no

Goodbye Strachan

Malky Mackay will be the next Scotland Manager - not saying he would be my choice. But he is already on the payroll and has English Premiership experience. The guys who are tasked with selecting a new manager (assuming WGS leaves) haven't got a clue so don't expect anyone decent
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This has been discussed but there would be no point in appointing him technical director a year ago and then ripping him out of the role to take over the side then having to bring in another technical director and start again with another new strategy.

Z - I refer to you my earlier comment about the SFA chiefs not having a clue

Just to be controversial

I’d give the job to McCoist
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Nothing controversial there, good to see you recognise his qualities and he is quite good at dealing with the media too (quite good = better than Strachan)
----------------------------------------------------------------------

He is a likeable guy (was chatting to him yesterday as my kids team was up against his son’s team)

He knows how to motivate

He will pick in form players

Plus he has been in the number 2 role so knows the job

Isn't it now five World Cup qualification failures? I remember that 98 side though. Anyway, suggests the problems are deeper than Gordon or any one manager. Similarly, when England are knocked out, actual reasons will be deeper than Mr. Southgate.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well actually England have very good players with two or three pushing the world class.

If I were an England fan I would be expecting the side to perform well at the World Cup.

I'm not sure to the deeper than Southgate issues though, you have an extremely well funded development system and a tremendous amount of money. At the very top your players play against some of the best players in the world every week so they get tested, your players are exposed to some of the best managers in the world, train daily in some of the best facilities in the world.

I cannot fathom the issues you are referring too other than the usual egos that get together when the squad meets up

----------------------------------------------------------------------
All identified in the Brookings report on the structural issues impacting the English national game. Paraphrasing in no particular order, and I don't remember the exact figures, but 70 percent of Italian national players are regularly exposed to Champions League football and competitive domestic fixtures. The figure drops to something under 40 percent for English players because the international nature of the Premiership.

Spain has tens of thousands of trained coaches at youth level for all abilities. England has considerably less. Other countries teach kids to be comfortable in possession and don't even score matches for young kids. Kids in the UK are taught to win at all costs from an early age and start playing hoof ball at primary school. Tall kids are stuck up front and short ones are told to be wingers. In Southern Europe, kids don't even have chosen positions until later.

There's other stuff too. My own view is the current team define mediocrity and are limited creatively. It's not that they are terrible. It's just they are unlikely to beat another world footballing powerhouse.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

He is very positive about the kids games. He is of the thoughts of let them learn and enjoy at this age - let the competitiveness come out when the league is competitive
