DUFC Youths 1 Linfield 0

United's youth team progressed to the quarter finals of the fizzy pop cup with a late, and admittedly undeserved victory against Northern Ireland champions Linfield at Tannadice.

And it was very much a youth team. Only four of the match day squad had any league football under their belt this season, two of which (Murdoch and Allardice) were being played out of position.

The line up showed how seriously we are taking this competition - we aren't taking it seriously at all. And as a fan I don't take it seriously at all. I was planning to go to the game, I was standing outside my house waiting to be picked up, and then I checked the line up as I got into the car and my old man and I made the mutual decision not to bother paying a tenner to get in to a youth team game that was being shown live on tv. So I went home and watched it on Alba.

Well...I watched most of it. At half time I had a walk to the supermarket so missed about 20 minutes of the second half. I believe I didn't miss much though.

Taylor got man of the match which was probably warranted from our perspective. I thought he did quite well. Nobody else really stood out apart from Allardice who seemed quite composed at CB. N'Koyi didn't do much and I hoped for better from him.

Linfield from what I saw played quite well and had a few really good chances that they should have scored from. United however kept themselves in the game and 17 year old Logan Chalmers notched his first United goal in the 94th minute to seal the win. I was delighted for the young lad especially since he missed a penalty in the shootout against Dundee in the league cup group stage.

The main talking point from the game among United fans was the strange interest from Rangers fans in the game via social media and of course the attendance of some Rangers fans at Tannadice itself. This sadly resulted in a return of sectarian singing to Tannadice which was unpleasant to hear on the television - Alba evidently don't turn the microphones down when it starts like the big broadcasters do. I suspect this had little to do with the real Linfield fans and more to do with the Rangers fans in the ground, but who knows.

Anyway, our youth team progressed and the draw is probably this week. I'm not sure who is left in the competition but I hope we continue to not take it seriously at all.

Aww, I feel bad now for what I said about Linfield fans.

Maybe it's because he's also a Leeds fan the effects cancel each other out?
