International week update update...

The international week ends today and there is a lot to play for...

AFC
Australia beat Syria 2-1 after extra time to win 3-2 on aggregate.
They now have a 2 leg play-off against the 4th placed team in CONCACAF.

CAF
3 places up for grabs, but these games will be played in November. Congratulations to Nigeria and Egypt - both qualified over the weekend.

CONCACAF - 1am UK time Wednesday morning kick offs.
Trinidad and Tobago v USA - US (12pts, +5gd) arguably only need a point to qualify considering the goal difference advantage they have. T&T out.
Panama v Costa Rica - Panama (10pts, -2gd) need a win to secure the play off place - and to take advantage of any US slip. Costa Rica through already.
Honduras v Mexico - Honduras (10pts) have an awful GD of -7, so will have to rely on Costa Rica and/or Trinidad. Mexico qualified long ago.
Top 3 go through, 4th play-off versus Australia.

CONMEBOL

Top 4 go through, 5th goes into a play-off versus New Zealand,

1- Brazil - 38pts (+27) = Q
2 - Uruguay - 28pts (+10) = guaranteed play-off at least
3 - Chile - 26pts (+2)
4 - Colombia - 26pts (+2)
------------------------------------------------
5 - Peru - 25pts (+1)
============================
6 - Argentina - 25pts (+1)
7 - Paraguay - 24pts (-5)
=============ELIMINATED================
8 - Ecuador - 20pts (-1)
9 - Bolivia - 14pts (-20)
10 - Venezuela - 9pts (-17)

*goal difference in brackets.

Tuesday nights fixtures (12:30am UK time kick offs, Wednesday morning)
Brazil v Chile
Ecuador v Argentina
Paraguay v Venezuela
Peru v Colombia
Uruguay v Bolivia

UEFA - all games kick off at 7:45pm
Group A -
France v Belarus - France win qualifies them.
Sweden v Netherlands - If Sweden avoid defeat by 7 or more goals then a play-off place is theres. Sweden will qualify directly if they win and France don't, or if they draw and France lose.

Group B-
Portugal v Switzerland - With a 3 point lead, Switzerland just need to avoid defeat. A Portugal win means they qualify and the Swiss go into the play-offs.

Group H-
Belgium are through, Greece just need to beat Gibraltar to seal a play-off place.
If Greece fail to win, Bosnia will get second with a win against Estonia - but will miss out on a play-off place, which would give Slovakia the final place.

QUALIFIED TEAMS 17/32
Russia, (hosts) , Brazil, Iran, Japan, Mexico, Belgium, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Germany, England, Spain, Nigeria, Costa Rica, Egypt, Poland, Iceland, Serbia

The winners of Sweden and Netherlands also get the prize of a place in League A of the Nations League. A draw leaves Austria in among the big boys.
In this respect, both teams would be happy with a draw and a place in League B.

Come on Syria

Iceland will be the only debutants as things stand, so would be nice to have a Panama - Syria play off.

Syria will get battered today in Australia in front of a packed Stadium Australia in Sydney.

We don’t lose there much at all it’s gonna be very hard for the Syrian players to handle the atmosphere.

South America should have more places at the World Cup. European countries have too much advantage and they only have to beat plumbers to get qualified.

My girlfriend is from Argentina so I'm hoping they'll get through and give me someone to support after Scotland's most recent catastrophe.

She does not hold out much hope for them unfortunately. They don't have a great record in Quito.

Tim Cahill puts the Australians through with two goals, including one in extra time.
Syria had a player sent off early in extra time, with the scored level.
