Utd telling the world they aint a big club

The title Utd. Three times on the trot Utd have played us now and every time they are like a small brother, very wary and wont come out and front up in case they get hurt.

100 millions of people watching all over the world to see the richest club in the world having a go to show they are in for the title....pah, its all pizz and balls. Maureen has no chance at the title, the top 6 will take too many points of Utd while the likes of City will go for the 3 points.

The table looks good for Utd but it wont last, already lucky to beat Saints away then today they were fkn hopeless...have fun Utd becuase im glad i dont pay to watch that shower every week

Their fans seemed to have dropped their standards through the floor, and on the whole will back, and excuse Mourinho anything.
Many of these same people a couple of seasons ago were of the view they wouldnt want this negative joker at their club no matter what, but seemed to have changed their tune somewhat.
United are entirely ordinary, but for a relatively easy run of fixtures at the start of the season, and wont be winning the premier league this season, or any time soon by the looks of them.
Their manager obviously doesn't trust their ability to go head to head with certain teams, which may well cost them a top 4 finish yet again this season.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You baffle me you lot... you know that if teams come at you and leave gaps all over the place you'll put them away at Anfield.

Tottenham and Arsenal habitually do this and get battered.

You also know that if teams sit deep you usually don't have the imagination to break them down and more often than not they'll nick a draw or sometimes even a win, despite having 30% possession or less.

Yet you get upset when Mourinho doesn't take the Wenger approach.

He's a lot of things, but he ain't daft.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What baffles me, is all week we have been hearing about how poor Liverpools defence is, how United are in a rich vein of form, with a title challenge imminent, stats p1ssing out of every orifice in regard to Lakaku, Miki, etc, a team that cost 200 million more to put together than the opposition, yet you roll up to Anfield, with a back 8, and make little attempt to get beyond the half way line.
Maybe thats what should be baffling you.
Or maybe youll have to wait till the end of the season, miss out on top 4 by a point or two, and then maybe the penny will drop for fans of the 'biggest club in the world'.

Err, no.
Just pointing out a few things that will eventually become apparent to even you as the season goes on.
You aint that good, you aint winning the title, and you will be simply battling for top 4 again.

This isn’t a Utd thing. They’re a club that has been playing attacking football for generations. You don’t get to wipe out the dna of a club in a year.

Most of their fans (some idiots on here aside) are still of the mindset they’ve always been and want the football they grew up on.

It’s a Mourinho thing. This is what he does. To my great regret, we’re not so good that we sweep all before us if you attack us. We’re just not that good that teams should be afraid to play their own game against us. But this is Mourinho’s game, evidenced over many years now.

He’ll leave Utd soon enough and they’ll return to being the club they always were.

They still do play attacking football, as obviously this type of set up by Mourinho is usually reserved for, well, Liverpool it seems.
I doubt even against City they will set up so defensively, which probably makes sense, because City certainly will find a way through, sooner or later, if they set up as they did today.
I genuinely believe the man is more interested in frustrating Liverpool, than setting is team up to actually go out, toe to toe, and actually try and beat them.
Hes a strange fish indeed.

It’s been 4 years.

And you obviously did not see United under Dave Sexton and early Fergie years

Sorry but that sounds paranoid to me.

Mourinho sets up defensively for many teams, especially in the second half of seasons. It’s just what he does. It’s difficult to knock because it’s successful but it ain’t pretty.

Maybe it does, but its not, as its a pretty well founded observation, in regard to recent meetings between the two clubs, in comparison to other games against teams he sees as a bigger threat than others.
I have seen the majority of Uniteds games against the so called top 6, and dont recall him adopting such an extreme rearguard action as he seems to adopt at Anfield, albeit that he will be pragmatic against better teams, but just not to the extent we have witnessed at Anfield over the last couple of seasons.
As for this tactic being successful, in terms of the premier league, thats only relative to where you finish come the end of the season.
If united finish outside the top 4 this season, by a point or two, you would have to concede it ultimately wasnt.

Sexton was a very negative coach and Fergie took over rubbish. United are associated with great wing play and attacking football but there is no Ince,Keane,Robson in the middle propping that up and there is not a Coppell,Hill,Giggs,Kanchelskis flying down the wing. It is not great to watch at times but winning 9 and drawing 2 of 11 is a very good return.
United were poor today and got a point at Anfield. It wasn't just the negativity it was constantly sloppily giving the ball away after 2 passes. Miles away from the great United sides but at least the slide has been stopped by Mourinho because another bum appointment and we could be Liverpool.

Knowledgeable post. Just explaining to pre Sky fans, not you, btw. That United did not always play attacking football.

We had Sexton after Docherty, like you.

Although Sexton was not quite so negative at the Bridge as he was later in his career
