Was a draw a fair assessment yesterday? I know Liverpool dominated the ball and were largely on the front foot because of Mourinho's tactics of parking the bus, but was a draw fair? I think it was personally, I think Liverpool attacked as well as United defended and vice-versa. Good to see a little bit of solidity from the Liverpool defence though. I know Lukaku had a chance, but other than that he was dealt with well throughout and even Moreno had a good game and so did Gomez, not to mention both CB's.
One thing this game does prove is how much a top goalkeeper makes the difference. That save from De Gea was excellent. Would Karius/Mignolet have made that save? I'm not so sure. Essentially saved them a point there which is the difference. I know Mignolet saved from Lukaku, but that was more a poor finish than a good save I thought. Overall, I thought it was an intriguing game, not great for the spectacle it was built up to be but solid performances all around, possibly quite unlucky not to win the game in the end. One negative is that Henderson just isn't a player for these sort of games. More sideways and backwards passing which I can like, but not in heated games than need adrenaline and creativity, he seemed to slow it and almost kill the atmosphere and attacking momentum Liverpool had sometimes. But that's just my opinion.
Thoughts?
Fair assessment?

A draw was fair because neither team scored.
We should have scored though, IMO, so I think we should have won and only have ourselves to blame for not doing so.
I also thought we had a stonewall penalty turned down when Herrera tripped Coutinho, which continued our run of having no luck this season.

In fairness, although many would have said it was soft or harsh, I'd bet he'd get a free kick for that on the halfway line. That cliché just stands out with that decision.

I don't see how the ref didn't give it to be honest.
He had a good view and while it wasn't a clattering challenge it was certainly a foul.

Its one of them that sits in the grey area of the rule book at the moment. It looks soft and silly, but lets be honest, quite a lot of fouls given away on the halfway line or in the middle of the park usually are soft or silly. It shouldn't be different what part of the line it is or isn't in. Its black and white really.
I got slated for saying Mané didn't deserve a red card having only seen the incident on TV once or twice and everyone through the FA rule book at me. You put the shoe on the other foot now and well... that's a penalty.

Nobody really appealed, not with any conviction anyway, and it was a game changer/decider. I suspect the ref considered it but wasn't 100% and with a muted appeal decided against.
It's not great that you have to appeal for a ref to make calls but such is the pressure on them these days, it'll make a difference.

I didn't see much from the players on the pitch but there was certainly some noise from the crowd and I do agree that players will influence a decision because when players react, you can just tell they have an instinct of whether it is a foul or not.
We could all see that it was a foul at the end of the day, he tripped/upended Coutinho in the box. It should have been given but I suppose mistakes happen in this game.

I'll be honest, at first viewing I thought the trip (/claim of a trip) came from the defenders between him and the goal. I wasn't watching for Hererra. It's only on replay that I saw it for what it was.
Now that's probably why I'm not a ref but it's not one I saw and thought stonewall penalty. I had to see it again, so I'd cut the ref a bit of slack.

In real time I thought pen and on replays even more so.
Obviously some decisions will go against you but we have had absolutely nothing go our way this season and it's becoming more than annoying now.
They don't even themselves out and it's time our luck changed.

Subjective, but I think United did play to win. Mourinho set up hoping for a sucker punch. Lukaku came close but overall the plan was executed poorly because key players were missing or carrying injuries.
That said, had we won it would've been a travesty!

Wow!!!
To call this delusional would be being kind.
