DUFC News

Here we go ladies and gentlemen.

In years to come they will eulogise (not euthanise, that's different) these pages, this site, this content. People will look back on these halcyon days of web publishing and say "DUFC News was the peak of internet interaction".

And you can say you were there. You experienced it first. You knew it as it happened.

So what's going on in the world of Dundee United these days?

Well, we're pretty scheidt, that's what. A poor, poor result last weekend against Livingston has once more deflated the support, which is particularly disappointing since our last league game had seen us dispatch the in-form Pars so convincingly.

The Livi result just adds to the increasing sense that our away record is not good enough for automatic promotion. Since December 2016 our away record reads P15, W2, D5, L8. That kind of ratio hasn't improved this season and it's troubling. We also average a shot at goal every 25 minutes and a goal every 82 minutes. That's not good enough by a long way.

The manager of course has come out and said last week is a bump in the road. Well, it seems we're going along Balunie Avenue at the moment (I grew up in Douglas hence the reference) and it's littered with speedbumps.

The loss isn't the worst of it for me - it's the manner of the defeat. We were deservedly beaten and, as a promotion contender, we should be putting up more of a fight. The manager isn't getting the best out of his players.

Does he need to go? I think he does. Will he go? I find it unlikely.

He may be bolstered by the return to training of Scott Fraser. However his recent tactical set-up means that Fraser will struggle to get in the team given that he plays best in a midfield three. The manager will use him as a replacement wide player, and I don't think that's where he should be. I'm sure however that Fraser not playing will make a fair section of our support pleased - I like him though, always have, and I think he never hides and tries to make things happen. I do accept though that he's a bit cowardly when it comes to the defensive side of things.

Tomorrow we entertain Inverness who are struggling desperately at the moment. The cynic in me suggests that this is the kind of fixture where we help our opponents out by gifting them three points to take home with them. Let's hope that doesn't happen and we rediscover the form that saw us defeat the Pars.

The game will feature some detestable "Din-Dee" nonsense where they're going to measure our noise compared to the wee team across the road, meaning they'll ask us to "make some noise" for no reason whatsoever. What utter tosh.

Speaking of utter tosh when comparing the teams, the Tele ran a piece about average attendances, showing that United's average this season is below 4k while Dundee's is up to over 6k. This of course covers all competitions, meaning that United's is lowered by our tiny attendances for the fizzy pop cup while Dundee's has been boosted by hosting two derby games in the League Cup. The reality is that in the league only I think Dundee are slightly ahead (around 300), which has been boosted of course by hosting Hibs, Hearts and St Johnstone. Away crowds have lifted them ahead. It's worth noting that we still maintain higher season ticket sales than the Dees.

Jeezo this has been a long thread. Anyway, Mon the Terrors

My advice would be to split the original long post into several smaller segments. Gen y and attention span etc.

Good point

I've realised with this new 280 word twitter limit that I don't have the attention span to read these long tweets.

I do enjoy a spot of DUFC News on a Friday. It has taught me much about Dundee and the dynamic within its footballing society.

I did find it rather amusing that Dundee fans hired and paid Wagner from the X-Factor to sing about Dundee Utd. Someone's put a collection of all the different Dee ditties they got him to perform on Youtube- they're all about Dundee Utd....
