Man City v Wolves match preview

Here again, for one day only, GeminMallorca brings you the chance to discuss the game before we get down to the real business on Halfy’s glorious match day thread tomorrow.

Note! The match preview thread is cut ‘n paste free.

Tuesday 24th October sees Nuno Espirito Santo’s, Championship league leaders, Wolves travel up the M6 to the Etihad stadium to take on the might of the current Premiership league leaders, Manchester City.

Wolves meet City in the 4th round of the Carabao cup, the hosts having dispatched Wolves’ West Midland rivals, West Brom 2-1 at the Hawthorns in the previous round. For the 3rd round tie Pep Guardiola fielded a largely reserve side and the Baggies had their chances to get something from the game. However, without some first class saves from Ben Foster, City could have had several more goals by the final whistle.

Wolves have sold out their allocation of tickets for the game and the travelling support will be hoping that Guardiola again fields a weakened side so as to avoid the sort of score line suffered by Stoke City just over a week ago.

What all Wolves fans are waiting to see is Nuno’s team selection for this game. With this being the second in a run of 5 games in a fortnight, Nuno has to practice some squad rotation and without doubt his first priority is promotion at the end of the season. With his mind clearly on that Prize, Nuno is building a squad not just to gain promotion but one which will be able to compete in the Premiership if promotion is achieved. This game represents a unique opportunity for him to assess his side against a team he will be hoping to play twice next season. Which way will he go? Only Nuno knows, the rest of us will have to wait and see.

Gem’s prediction Man City 4 Wolves 2

Tamwolf suggested that I do this thread in rhyme. I thought about it but decided it was a challenge too far. But for Tam here is a bit of prose on the subject.

It will be a pity
If we lose to City
But it won’t be a big surprise
Promotion is the aim
Not one day of fame
And Nuno has his eyes on the prize.

And if the cup final
Goes down the urinal
Some may think that’s tough
But surely it’s right
To reach the top flight
The silverware will come soon enough.

It seems the match preview thread is gaining in popularity. The first one had 19 comments, the next one 77 and this one is now up to 97.
I am waiting patiently to close this thread now and announce that Halfy's match day thread is up and running but alas, 9.00 am and still nothing.
Come on Halfy, stir your stumps!
