Royals V Forest Match Thread

Tuesday night Madejski Stadium 20:00 kick off.

The footballing gods have smiled down on the Red's of late and that good fortune might well extend into our next game.
After reaching the Playoff Finals last season Reading have only won 3, drawn 3 and lost 7 so far.

Sacking Jaap Stam is being openly discussed in the local media.

They suffered a serious setback and injury to both Centre Halves during Saturdays two nil loss to Middlesbrough.
The clash of heads between centre-backs Liam Moore and Tiago Ilori led to a lengthy break in play and forced Royals to readjust.

Moore managed to continue after treatment, but Tiago Ilori was stretchered off and subsequently taken to hospital. I suspect he won't figure on Tuesday night. Quite possibly neither first choice centre half will play

Jaap rallying the faithful:
Jaap Stam has backed his side to turn their fortunes around with the visit of Nottingham Forest to Madejski Stadium on Tuesday night.
He said: "Everybody wants to put Saturday right, but the thing is we need to do certain things better in the game to create more opportunities, to score goals and win games.
"We're working hard, we're trying to do that and keep the mistakes to a minimum.
"In previous games we've played this season, there have been certain decisions from us that have cost us games, and that's what happened against Middlesbrough."

Tuesday night could be a perfect opportunity for Warburton to pair Ben Brereton and Dowell up front, or will he name an unchanged side after the spectacular win over Hull?

Bummer but not surprised really. It’s going to be an up and down season and we aren’t quite up there with the top sides yet (not that Reading are a top side but they did get to play off final last season). Get the win on Sat and things will look quite rosy

Our only consistency, like many championship teams, is our inconsistency. 15 games this season and not a single draw, quite extraordinary really, 7 wins and 8 defeats, but more worrying is the number of games we concede the first goal.
IMO where we are now is more or less the position we will finish.
Onto QPR on Saturday and no idea what to expect but I doubt it will be 0-0.

Looking at the highlights, both full backs were given the run around by Barrow. Seemed to be full blown panic everytime got the ball. Can excuse Lichaj a little as he is a square peg in a round hole and he did got forward to good effect. Darikwa was underwhelming again and virtually rolled out the red carpet for Barrow to sweep through and set the first goal up. He needs to start showing why Warburton laid out £2m for him in the summer as he is a bit of a passenger at the moment.

Having said that, only a couple of great saves from Mannone denied Walker a brace that would have had Forest right back in the game. The defending of the team is always likely to leave the forwards having to perform heroics to keep the Reds in matches at the moment and that isn’t sustainable long term.

Smith had a bit of a ‘mare but in his defence, he was offered little protection for any of the three goals and saved Forest from a heavier defeat IMO.

Let’s see what the R’s can bring to the CG on Saturday.

Just listened to Warbs on Ifollow and he seems genuinely perplexed as to what went wrong in the first half.
Forest have a history over the past few years of not showing up in midweek games though, irrespective of changing players and managers.

Yes, does seem that way. Whether being ultra defensive under Freedman or cavalier under Montanier and now Warburton, never seem to like midweek trips!
