"The crack cocaine of gambling"

Almost every radio station was discussing this topic today, with the highly addictive fixed odds betting machines in betting shops being called "the crack cocaine of gambling" where you can bet up to £100 on one spin

The idea is that the maximum amount will be dropped to between £50 & £2 per spin...will this be the answer...?

Barring a quid on a golf game, or a sweepstakes on fantasy football at work...I dont gable - I have done in the past - but not much...just wondered what peoples thoughts are on this & if they are the problem they are perceived to be...

The argument from the betting industry is that if this new maximum becomes law, a huge amount of betting shops will close with the loss of thousands of jobs, and people will just bet elsewhere

just wondered what peoples thoughts are on this & if they are the problem they are perceived to be...for themselves or others

Fackin country has gone to hell in a handcart...and the worst thing is most people won't ever see this horrendous scourge....it literally is just like buying drugs on the street

Not the bookies as such but online gambling which is even more dangerous in my opinion. The "celebs" pushing gambling on people through TV adverts for easy money depresses me. The likes of Chris Kamara and Ray Winstone. How do they sleep at night? They know they're selling misery to many, many people. Gambling pimps I think of them as.

They must be coining it in too...

Yep. And it's not like they're on a poor street either. One a Sky Sports presenter, and one an established actor.
I can only think they are utterly oblivious to the devastating effects gambling can have on peoples' lives.

Weare , MTC (Mons) is known as the ja606 clown anyway most teams have one and his ours unfortunately. Just ignore him, he talks $hit 24/7 and usually backtracks on everything within 2 months. Guy threw in the league title and said we wouldn't even make top 4 last september and he wrote an article crying about how he lost his passport and was stuck in sunny spain for an extra day

Gambling adverts on TV should be banned. Also sickens me seeing overpaid famous actors like Ray Winstone and Clive Owen starring in these gambling adverts when they must know how many lives are ruined by gambling addiction and they're just helping to encourage it.
