Off Topic Musical Survey

Right then! One last attempt to keep you all amused before we get back to the real thing at the weekend. If you can manage to drag yourself away from Perton's riveting transfer thread, the idea here is to answer ten questions and then we can all rush off to youtube and check out anything that sounds interesting. This is another generation-bridging thread so the dinosaurs out there better be prepared to see bands named that they have never heard of
Here are the questions:

1. Favourite band
2. Favourite track by favourite band
3. Favourite guitar solo
4. Favourite ballad
5. Favourite cover version
6. Favourite male vocalist
7. Favourite female vocalist
8. Song with the best lyrics
9. Best band/artist you have seen live
10. Band/artist you would most like to see live

I've seen most of the top bands over the years including the stones, the who, cream, the doors. But my great regret is not seeing queen with Freddie.

10. Kings of Leon
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I went to see Kings of Leon for £7 at the Carling Academy 2 in Birmingham just after they released their first album. They were fantastic then.

They were one of my favourite bands during the period they made their first three albums. Youth and Young Manhood and Aha Shake Heartbreak were cracking albums. I saw them again after they released Aha Shake Heartbreak, which was great again.

Went down hill pretty quickly when they released S3x is on Fire though. Sold out to produce middle of the road stuff so they could be popular. Even cut their hair and shaved their beards. I saw a bit of them at a festival a while back and they have lost all their energy and everything that made them so good at the start. More interested in looking cool. I’ve never been more disappointed in a band.

Can’t even bring myself to listen to their new stuff now.

I've been a massive fan of Gary Numan since I was 11, my cuz and I had a chance to go and watch him rehearse for his latest tour in London a few weeks back so we shelled out the readies and spent an afternoon in a rehearsal room with him and his band. For a fan an incredible experience and he was a really nice relaxed easy going guy too.

Interesting observation Tam. Maybe I'll have a rethink on number 10 then

Going back to cover versions. Todd Hoffman from the TV series Gold Rush does the most incredible cover of Sound of Silence. If you haven't heard it I urge you to head over to Youtube right now. You won't regret it!
