Lets have a little poll on who you think the greatest manager to manage England i.e who done the best job for England's national football team
5 Stars - Ramsey Alf
4 Stars - Bobby Robson
3 Stars - Sven Goran Eriksson
2 Stars - Walter Winterottom
1 Star - Terry Venables
Ramsey Alf - Greatest manager of England by a mile. Only manager to win a major international tournament with England. Also took them to the semi's in Euro 68 and made the quarters of the 1970 world cup.
Bobby Robson - Only manager who comes anywhere close to Ramsey as the others are a bit of a joke to be honest. Took England to the World Cup quarter finals in 1986 where the hand of god stopped England from going further and then reaching the semis in 1990 only losing to Germany on penalties. Remains to this day the only manager apart from Ramsey to reach the semi's in a world cup with England and the only manager to take England to a semi final on foreign soil.
Can't believe England did not renew his contract in 1990. Considering Robson continued to manage until 2004 and with the vast amount of talent England had from the mid 90's to mid 00's he could have easily added to England's trophy cabinet.
Sven Goran Eriksson - Only manager apart from Ramsey to take England into the quarter finals in 3 consecutive major tournaments and only manager apart from Ramsay and Robson to make consecutive world cup quarter finals with England. Only difference is Ramsay and Robson were each able to take England further than the last 8 in one of their two world cup campaigns and with the array of talent Eriksson had at his disposal he should have been easily able to do so. Playing certain players out of position and trying to fit in his best 11 players instead of concentrating on the formation, system, tactics, chemistry of players etc cost him and England.
Walter Winterbottom - Only other England manager to take them into a world cup quarter final. Reaching the quarters in the 1954 and 1962 world cups. Plus the alliteration in his name makes it so catchy to say. Was well before my time so apart from that don't know much about him.
Terry Venables - Only manager apart from Ramsey and Robson to reach a major tournament semi-final taking England to the semi's of Euro 96 where they unfortunately lost to Germany on penalties.
Capello and Hoddle could have easily been on this list. Both had a plus 60% win rate and England were looking in good form. Both were capable of achieving something special in their 2nd major tournament with England if non-footballing reasons did not cause them to be fired/leave the job. However making the last 16 in their only tournament means they have no right to be on this list sadly.
Hodgson could have also made this list who surprisingly is only the 6th manager to reach a major tournament quarter final with England. Which more shows how bad England have been rather than how great Hodgson is and with his failures in South Africa and France I would easily have him on my worst England manager of all time.
Apart from that their is not many up for discussion as a great manager whilst with managers like Revie, Greenwood, McClaren, Hodgson, Taylor and many more there are plenty who could be talked as the worst England manager of all time.
Greatest Manager of England of all time

Only really Ramsey, Robson, Southgate have got England competing at the very highest level. For me though I think competing at that level in this day and age is the most impressive. Football is at its highest standard and is more competitive than ever. The fact that a young England side are currently a match for any team in the world, possibly even in history, is old testament to how good a job Southgate is doing and puts him ahead of Ramsey and Robson.

Are you honestly saying that winning the World Cup is less of an achievement than drawing 0-0 with Brazil and Germany in meaningless friendlies?
Also what evidence have you got to support your view that football is at its highest level and more competitive than ever? I would suggest that players like Pele, Zico, Maradona, Beckenbaur, Cruyff, Best etc would have excelled in any era. I also think that to shine on terrible pitches plus the leniency of referees to strong play means that if anything great players in say the 70s and 80s would be absolutely amazing in today's game.

2. AVB - Got Spurs record points total for a short time frame
3. Klopp - Once did things in a league outside the PL
