The English National Team

if you had to say yes or no.......Will England win a Major Tournament in your lifetime?

If you look at Leicester City and at International level Greece (its got groove its got meaning) then anything is possible.

The last time I dared to dream was Euro 2004. I always used to dream. Circumstances coming together, a ref decision that goes our way, our key players hitting form at the right/same time. I just don’t do that any more.

For me the answer is a definite hell to the no!!

As I commented in another article, Italy who haven’t qualified for the next World Cup will still probably win another World Cup before we do and Euros? Until we can function as a team and get over some mental block that makes our players freeze on the big occasion, I don’t see when we’ll win one.

I can see us winning a Euro's, not a World Cup.

I can't

Mentality needs changing first, we have the players to win one always have. But take the other night, we got a 0-0 draw at home to brazil and the players are buzzing and delighted, it was a draw at home, regardless of the oppo that's crap, brazil were annoyed at only drawing and they came to us. And it was a friendly.

Yes Melbourne England should beat Japan and Egypt but nothing is a given and Denmark and Greece have won Euros despite having poor teams but great team spirit.Egypt and Japan have players who can hurt England.

England won the World Cup on my 21st birthday, honest. Of course they can and will win it again. Sadly not in my life time, because I'm 72.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I was there at Wembley in 1966 as a 17 year old, so if nothing else I have seen England win one world cup.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

My dad went to the final too. How did you get your ticket?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Easy, I was given all my tickets by relatives. Didn`t have to pay for any of them, where they got them from I haven`t a clue.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Nice one. My dad has ticket framed in study. Where did you sit for the final? Can you remember price on your ticket
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sandy won his. Bought a chocolate bar with a golden ticket with the last of his families savings. Then went to the factory with some other lucky winners to get a tour from a man wearing a top hat and purple suit. He saw many things that day, like orange dwarfs and rivers of chocolate, but had too much to eat and hallucinated he was at the World Cup final, and that England deserved to win.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

It is strange that he doesn't remember how he got his World Cup final ticket.

Hardly a one-off game, is it? Definitely something that you would remember if you did go to the Final.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Hey Dumbo what part of I got my tickets of my relations do you not understand. Ad just for the record I still have tickets for all the matches I attended.

Final Ticket I was in the West Stand Enclosure, Entrance 65, Turnstile G.

Cost of ticket £1 5d

Now have you yourself ever attended a match, let alone been to Wembley?

Pre 97 I never EVER thought I'd see Chelsea win anything of any note...

so anything is possible with England....given what we have coming through at youth level now we've possibly never been in a better position

so ...no

England will do very well, they are better equipped than at any time in the past 50 years. They now have a group of young players that are hungry to do well. None of the so called Golden Generation to hold the team back. After the poor euros last time, they would have learnt a lot. I would be very surprised if this England team did not go very deep into the World Cup. There are a lot of very overrated teams going, whom England should have no fear of. They have become very difficult to beat, do not concede a lot, and just need to get it right up front to progress right through the tournament.

you should go into the bookmaking business, Sandy.
You'll make a fortune!

Ted the bookies took all my money when I visited Kempton Park on Monday, although I do have a tenner to pick up from Betfred on the last race, which I never hung about to collect.
