3pm Kick Offs Dead?

"Premier League clubs have unanimously backed prime-time televised Premier League football on Saturday nights from 2019-20.

The move, part of the next set of domestic broadcast rights, comes after the league told industry regulator Ofcom that it will increase the number of live matches available to broadcasters from 168 to at least 190 -- half of the season's 380 games.

But at a meeting in London the clubs gave the Premier League permission to sell up to 210 games a season, which will almost certainly include a package of games at 7:45 p.m. UK time on Saturdays, more games on bank holidays and more midweek games.

Press Association Sport reported that the commitment to not showing any live games in the UK between 2:45 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. on Saturdays would continue."

So we now may have televised football available on:

Friday 7.45pm
Saturday 12.30pm
Saturday 3.00pm
Saturday 5..30pm
Saturday 7.45pm
Sunday 1.30pm
Sunday 4.00pm
Monday 7.45pm.

Thats a possible 7 matches being played at times that aren't 3pm Saturday.

Great for overseas armchair fans like me as these matches are predominantly morning kick offs. Although this Saturday evening game would test wifefrom's nerves if I was watching more football during a saturday afternoon.

What about folks on the other side of the pond? Would a Saturday night prime time game clash with PJ and Duncan or Noel Edmunds or whoever else is on the telly? I suppose a few ales on a Saturday night in the pub weatching the game wouldn't be such a bad thing.

Maybe do away with Saturday 3pm all together and leave that to the lower leagues who rely more on fans through the door than TV $$$.

In conclusion. Whatever.

its purely for tv.

its certainly not taking safety into account and "prime time" doesn't align with a class i match being played early to avoid the usual drinking binges.

The slot i absolutely despise is 12:30 on saturday. it is a pure dead mans time for a game and is no good to anyone but tv in asia probably.

It's laughable really. Upholding the sacred "No televised 3pm kick-offs", then moving 80% of the games to other times so they can be televised.

Yeah. Just do away with Saturday 3pms. let the lower league clubs enjoy their slot and gate receipts and let the rest of us get on with sitting in front of the TV for an entire weekend watching football and being entertained by Gunnerthru's vidipriinter wit.

No way. Soccer Saturday, whilst drunk and furiously flicking through your bet slips is a British past time.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think you'll find it's called football, bloody brits and their 'soccer'

When I was living in Germany it was fantastic to watch at home or in the pub the Saturday 3pm kickoff's in the Bundesliga. As a neutral just watch the Conference channel. The director would just gamehop from each game when something interesting would happen. It was very much like Soccer Saturday but not going back to the studio just showing the games with energetic voice-overs pundits and commentary teams. However if you wanted to watch your team play you could choose the game. Premier League is way behind they should be offering these TV packages. It would really be great to watch. They've already priced out the average fan from attending lots of games in a season so no loss there.

I'm not sure on times of trains etc. but seen people saying before that the last train out of London to Merseyside is before 8pm and can be very difficult to make if you're in London for a 5.30pm kick off
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That can't be right, maybe from certain stations. Last trains from Euston to Manchester are at past 10

Mammon wins again - for now.

One day - God knows when, but it will happen - this bloated balloon will burst, and when it does the the scheidt will spread for miles. Enjoy it while you can, but just make sure you've got a big umbrella by you for that fateful day.

Did these decision makers bother to ask the fans what they thought or wanted or were they totally ignored (yet again)?

I mostly watch football on TV so I wouldn’t be affected by unhelpful K.O. times and awkward travel arrangements so more football on TV would be nice. I would also rather watch the most stale boredraw/ United game than 99% of what is on TV on a Saturday evening anyway.

However, I personally as a Sabbath observer, would like to see all weekend games played at 3pm on a Sunday but since I know this will never happen, 3pm on Sabbath will have to do. It really is silly that games still can’t be broadcast in this country at this time. Abolish this rule, have all games start at 3 and allow the broadcasters to show 2-5 selected games per week and let the viewer choose one to watch. Tuesday/ Wednesday evening games can continue as they are but no more Saturday 12:30/ 5:15/ 5:30 etc.

Why shouldn’t there be a game at 17:30 on a Saturday night or one later?

This is what’s on right now at 17:39 on a Saturday night

BBC1 - Len Goodman’s partners in rhyme!

BBC2 - Rugby

ITV - Paul O’Grady for the love of dogs

Channel 4 - Grand Designs

Channel 5 - Christmas in Homestead

KLS

Clearly your views don't count in this. A true supporting gent would be making the case that a game of rugby at such a time is equally an abomination.

You come across as typical of millions these days, just aTV watching glory hunter who pronounces anything other than the bloated excess of the EPL to be scheidt.
