traffic problems around molineux

morning all,

for those who go the game by car:

what's yr experience of getting away from the matches been like? I drive and park at the redhill car park and the post match traffic has been chaotic this last few weeks. last night match it took me an hour to get from the car park to the hatherton! and that was with a crowd of 24,000ish. and I refuse to leave the match early just to try to get a head start in the queue.

I understand the reason for road closures before the game, and as the crowds disperse afterwards, but i'm not convinced the club/police have got this right yet. am planning on writing to both to ask them some questions about future plans (this is only going to get worse if we have crowds of 29,000+ each match) so any thoughts or shared experiences will help. for me the biggest problem is that the gate across the road that takes us back onto the ring road is remaining locked even after the crowds are gone and presumably any security risk has passed.

cheers for any help or ideas from the group...

I used to park at Redhill but moved to Whitmore Hill last season. Then they were keeping us in that car park for 20 minutes after the game by which time the traffic has built up and it was taking an age to get away. So in August I decided to move to Birch Street. Bit further to walk but at least easier to drive away. Since that time lots of people have changed to Birch Street and it’s pretty full most games. Recommend it to avoid the new traffic arrangements which I don’t think will change because it’s an agreement with the police regarding pedestrian safety

I drive for midweek games & yes, it's not good, I park at Fold St so not too far to walk but chaos in the city centre - secondary question, what IDIOT decided to clash the City Centre light switch on with a midweek match (yes I know it's been re-arranged) surely the lights on ceremny could have been moved when they found out, more road closures & it's going to be more chaos

When I went to games I used Birch St every time. As DJ says, it's a bit further to walk but after the game it's a pleasure to escape the crowds and have easy access to the ring road. My advice though is to get there really early and get a space on the open air bit of the car park which is much easier to escape from than the multi-storey bit.

cheers all

we've been at the same car park for years - originally because of being as close as we could for mobility reasons. if it was me on my own i'd have no problem parking a bit further away and walking...tbf I could have walked home to burntwood quicker than I drove it last time!

I get the pedestrian safety purposes. but when yr sat in yr car and the only pedestrians you can still see are one or two of the Molineux staff going home for the night, it is clear the risk has long since gone. my point which i'll make to the police is that once the crowd has dispersed there is more danger of an idiot using a vehicle as a weapon in wolves town centre than there is someone turning off the ring road through that small side street where no more than every day numbers are walking.

i'll mention the idiotic decision by council/police on the Wednesday lights switch-on when I write. a bit more politely than that though

Yes, worth going for the open air bit. If you arrive close to kick off you could end up towards the top of the multi storey which can make it a slow queue for the exit

Always used to park on Clarence Street. Not sure what it's like now, but I used to wait in the stadium for a while then a slow walk back the car. By then most of the traffic had gone. (horses and carts of course).

Coming from Stafford I park by the science park off the Stafford road, unfortunately the miserable feckers have closed the bloody car park there for match day parking, so there's about 200 empty spaces there now. I try and park the roads nearby now and usually get something. Good walk and easy get away after the match. (Depends which side of town your heading back to mind)
