The 2 defeats while ultimately deserved are skewing the overall picture on the defence, the first paragraph is factual and so we are nowhere near as bad as some would have you believe.
Yes lovren and Mignolet are imo probably not good enough over a season, but even with them we aint doing too shabby.
If...and it is a big if, VVD does come in January then for me we "could" well be right at the top along side City....injuries permitting of course.

Keeping clean sheets against the likes of Maribor, Swansea and Southampton is easy, they are all useless. Getting absolutely trashed by any decent side, ie City and Spurs will probably become the norm for Liverpool with their defence.
