If you're not happy with the lack of players from the academy getting a sustained run in the team, can i ask, who it is you blame?
Do you blame whoever the current Manager/Head Coach of Chelsea is?
I have used the word 'whoever' before somebody points out i should know who that is, because i'm referring to a recurring theme since Roman bought the club.
And that for me is the telling point. I personally don't think, with the exception of Guus in his 2nd stint, a Chelsea Manager has been safe to give the 'kids' a sustained run in the team. Or certainly not felt safe to do so.
We're all would be managers. I wanted Torres to be dropped for Danny. But i'm not the guy who has to live with the decision.
I think a few people on here would rather it was RLC instead of Baka. Again i can see your logic, but we're not the ones who'll ultimately get sacked if it goes balls up.
Sorry once again Flash digressed.............Who is to blame? The guy picking the team or the pressure to succeed?
Chelsea and the Academy........

Surely this has nothing to do with the quality of the first 11.The reason you have so many young lads in your development squad is purely business.
You obviously pick up some good lads and turn them into valuable assets, which you can then sell on at a vast profit. This system also keeps the very best prospects within Chelsea and away from your competitors.
The first 11 and the academy are two totally different departments within CFC. One wins trophies, the other is a revenue straem
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This too, it was made clear some time ago that our academy would be a revenue stream as well as bringing through 1 to 2 players each year. We seem to have the revenue side sorted and we have glimpses of the other coming through now.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This is why i won't even slate Jose for this. Yes there were 'dead rubber' games where he could have played them more but that aside. I don't think he could give them the sustained run some of our fans were demanding.

I've just been discussing this with a mate of mine who works at Cobham, he's not a Chelsea fan but he is obviously a lot closer to the club than I am. Apparently Emanalo wanted Tammy to stay at the club this season, Conte was supportive of this too but the board decided to loan him out again. I think we need to replace Emanalo on that board as soon as possible because ate moment none of them have a decent history in football and it's going to be tough. It seems like Emanalo was struggling and he supposedly was a favourite of Roman. Whoever comes in needs to be respected in football and trusted by Roman if they are going to be able to influence the rest of the board.
Things aren't bad in the camp but could be smoother. Conte is happy enough and apparently a really nice bloke, Luiz is not rocking the boat over being dropped either so we have work to do but things are not even close to the press speculation.
He's told me he doesn't mind me sounding him out on rumours, but I'm not going to bug him every 5 minutes nor put anything on here that might get him in trouble even if he doesn't seem to mind. I was impressed with the farewell text Emanalo sent him when he resigned but he said that was just the kind of guy he was.
The board side of things is purely my view based on our discussion.

From a playing them point of view do you think there's too much pressure through expectation?
I remember seeing an interview with Batesy just after we got promoted in 89 where he actually said he and John Neale had always intended to give the kids a run in the team back in 83 if the first team had us safe by Easter.
But our first team could not manage that and it was too risky to put what was essentially our very existence in the hands of the kids.
Now because of the money etc i think the pressure if anything is just as great as it was when Batesy was fighting off the sods trying to destroy us.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think in the past maybe but we were also told once we had established ourselves (defined as a few titles and a cl or 2) we would spend less and hope to bring through more, even if it meant less titles, I'm sure Kenyon or Buck said this 6 or 7 years ago. It will come we are in it for the long term not as flash in the pans.

If you don't mind an outsiders view...
Obviously we all like to see local players in our line ups but the quality has to be there. I really don't see an issue with Chelsea and the academy, ultimately everyone gets something. Chelsea get the chance of the one special player making it through or selling on the player. The academy player gets a top rate football education and can move on to other clubs.
I think the only question mark is whether obvious and genuine talent is being ignored in favour of experience and consistency. KdB is the big example, I'm told his ability was there for all to see but he never got the chances.
From what I can see though, Conte seems more prepared to look to blood younger players though so perhaps if you had another KdB, he'd be played.

Always good to hear an outsider's view especially a considered one rather than a dig or wind up. I agree with you in the main though KDB was not s product of our youth team, he did get a few games but sadly showed little to make you believe hevwas anything special, he always looked a little bewildered if anything but hey ho, hindsight is a wonderful thing.

I do think Josh McEachran, Gael Kakuta, Bertrand and Lewis Baker should of had more of a chance in the first team. It is a little frustrating.I definitely think it's the pressure from above. Our expectations to win things compared to Tottenham are different. That's why it is less risky to give youngsters a try for teams like Tottenham.

This would be fantastic if the goalposts don't get moved.
I would cheerfully forfeit the league and winning the Champions League here and now if i knew, we'd finish top 4 over next 3 seasons, there would be some of our academy as first team regulars and the same head coach we have now, was in charge 3 years from now.
As a fan who watched his first match during our 83/84 promotion winning season, I don't demand success.
I actually crave the idea of seeing the same guy picking the team longer than 2 seasons.

I think I'd be one of the only armchair managers on here who in the chair itself would categorically say (publicly) that I buy into our loan system and that any player on it has to force me to bring them into the first team - and I'd sight Christensen as a benchmark.
Oh how I'd be hated on here

That's one of the best comments I've read in a while. Absolutely spot on
You're right about KDB. That was a case of genuine talent being shunned in favor of familiarity but the manager wanting numbers in the squad, thereby allowing the player to be frustrated. We f***ed up.
