Forest V Cardiff City Match Thread

Perhaps a more apt title for this match thread could be 'Forest versus Colin'.

I will always retain the glorious memory of Colin going into meltdown during that never to be forgotten 4-7 thrashing that Forest handed out at Elland Rd.

"Nottingham Forest's Garath McCleary struck four times as Leeds conceded seven goals at home for the first time.
Robert Snodgrass put Leeds ahead with an early penalty but Forest hit back with goals from Adlene Guedioura, McCleary and Dexter Blackstock."

His time at Leeds has to be numbered amongst his failures, along with Crystal Palace although he previously saved them from relegation.

To be fair to Neil Warnock he must be numbered amongst a select group of managers who almost guarantee success at this level.

His first real success was taking Notts County from the Third to the First Division.
Other notable achievements were with Sheffield United and QPR, taking both clubs into the Premiership.

Now at Cardiff City Colin is proving once again that his magic wand is still charged with Fairy Dust, moving them from concrete loaded relegation candidates to promotion contenders.

Bluebirds Boss, Neil Warnock, praised his side’s endeavour and work ethic following Tuesday night’s fantastic win at Oakwell.

The 1-0 victory over Barnsley lifted the Bluebirds back into the second automatic promotion spot, following Sheffield United’s defeat at home to Fulham.
“I didn’t enjoy the first half with the wind behind us, we were almost a bit too comfortable at times," said Neil.

“But we had some words at half time and I thought we were much better from the kick off in the second half.

“In these conditions, on a blowy Tuesday night in Yorkshire, you have to grind it out – and I told the lads that. They worked really hard and the goal came in the final ten minutes."

Callum Paterson's 83rd minute strike - his first in Cardiff City colours - secured a 1-0 away victory over Barnsley.

Neil Warnock made two changes from Saturday’s 2-0 victory over Brentford, as Aron Gunnarsson came into the starting eleven, and the newly recruited Rolf Feltscher was named amongst the substitutes.

Although Lee Camp is on Cardiff's books, the first choices G/K is Neil Etheridge [25].

Along with Lee Camp, Greg Halford has also followed Neil Warnock from Rotherham to South Wales.

Greg became Cardiff City's first signing of the January 2017 transfer window, as he joined from Rotherham United on a contract running until the summer of 2018.

Cardiff City completed the season-long loan signing of Craig Bryson[21] from Derby County on deadline day of the summer 2017 transfer window.
Bryson is a box to box midfielder, whose loan has created much angst amongst the sheep.

Cardiff's leading goal scorers are;

Nathaniel Mendez-Laing 5 goals, 4 assists

David Junior Hoilett 4 goals, 5 assists

Joe Ralls 4 goals, 1 assist.

Cardiff have also signed Omar Bogle, who hasn't found his feet yet in the Championship with 2 goals so far, from 5 appearances and 2 starts.

That said, if many other team’s managers were watching yesterday, they would have seen the master plan for stifling a team looking to play a bit of football. It is the nature of the beast in this league.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That’s the worry isn’t it. Mick McMarthy will have been watching and he’ll know exactly what to do.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It's then down to our young guns to learn.
I am not sure Ipswich have the same physicality that Cardiff have; if they have then we may have to learn quickly.

They are also the home team so will be expected to come out and attack Forest.

Of course teams will be trying to emulate Warnock's tactics but few will be able to execute them as well. Colin is the master he has been perfecting his methods for 25 years.

There will also be teams who try to copy the way Wolves play. Not such an easy path as we are finding out; and it takes a while to get it right.

The path we are on is a long one, but we have come a long way since last Christmas - as a club not just a team. I can see further improvements after the next transfer window. Mark and Frank have had more time to do the groundwork for bringing players in (and offloading one or two). They will have seen much more clearly than we supporters where we need to strengthen and they will have players in mind to do that.

Be patient everybody and try to take the longer term view of things.

As long as the patient approach continues, that should hopefully be the case. In such a stronger position than last winter. Hoping Warburton will go out and get his targets across the line. The Scandinavian goalie they went for in the summer for one might be more tempted now Forest are looking more competitive than last season.

Thanks Iwas for giving us all a chance...by losing at home to Ipswich.

Don't worry, it's just a blip for you boys. You've got a good few months left until you bottle it again.
