Megson?

So if we win tomorrow night, should we start considering giving Megson until the end of the season with a view to recruiting somebody decent in June?

I read that only 1 Newcastle fan in 20 wanted Pardew when he signed. Midland - Pardew is a fully paid up member of your Endlessly sacked managers society. I am not at all keen on this bloke but I want us to make a quick appointment and not end up in the mess that Everton have found themselves.

Pulis's win percentage at Albion: 29.75%
Pardew's win percentage at Newcastle: 38.4%

Don't get me wrong, i'm not a Pardew fan but he'd be an improvement on Pulis. I just think we could do better by waiting until the summer provided that we believe that Megson has the ability to keep us up.

Pardew would be a good interim manager. He always has a good first 12-18 months then his teams just fall off a cliff completely.

You could be right mate. I'd just like us to think about the long term.

Pardew will definitely get us playing better football which is my main priority. Life's too short to be watching Pulis ball!

My boss, his brother and there mates are die hard Baggies fans (have even been up to Langley with them a couple of times for pizz up's) and one night they were having a massive debate about Pulis that turned heated, half wanted better footy, the other half was happy with Prem status. Was that the general split feeling around the club as a whole?

Think Pardew is a done deal now so will have to accept it.

Wouldn't have minded Megson till the end of the season but the problem is the end of the season is a long way away and it's a huge risk. Might have given him these two home games. If we can take 4 points, I'd gamble then go all out for someone with pedigree in the summer.

Easy to gamble when it's not my £150m quid though.

The club has been divided for the best part of 5 years now. Those divisions were opened up during the last couple of seasons though. By the end though even his supporters wanted him gone when we weren't getting results.

Problem is everyone wants different things. Some are happy to stay in the league at whatever cost and will accept Pulisball. Others want the return of total football from their glorious hero Tony Mowbray and the "Albion way", even if it relegates us.

The reality is probably somewhere in the middle, that it is possible to play good football and remain in the league with a bit of astute planning, but even that will take some investment and at the moment we can't tell what the owner's plans are.

Put me in the "stay in the premier league at all costs" camp. Managers come and go but if you want to see the best players and get the highest possible profile for your club, there is no other place to be.
Furthemore all those clubs playing great football in the lower leagues are pining to join us.

Just finishing up at work then looking to head up to the Wagon about 7.

Wrap up boys it’s going to be a cold one.

Tough game Vs the Toon but with them losing the last 4, it’s one we should be looking to win!

The team I follow over here (Sweden) have a few good seasons - win a division, finish second, mid table - then a few bad. The quality isnt all that but you dont know what you are going to get.

And that's how I remember football from the 1970s. (Liverpool aside). You didn't know who was going to win or go down.

For me, that matters more than mid-table PL every season. That's dull. So - if it had to be a choice between stabiity in the PL and yoyo - I'd choose Yoyo if that meant good football.

But as Teix says, it should be possible to do both; play good football and be in the PL.
