A few things Liverpool:

Just a few thoughts really and happy for opinions.

Brighton
A good win to carry on fine goal scoring form. Brighton had a great chance to take the lead though, and some others to get back in it, but they're not a bad side at home and given the make shift defence it was a great result containing some real quality. That first time ball from Cout to Firmino was football põrņ. Great to see us doing better at set pieces both defensively as well as offensively. Shout to Mig for some good saves too.

Can
I thought he may have been dropped over contract issues but there he was playing out of position and getting a goal to boot. He told the echo the other day that there is still a chance he'll stay. Now that could be bollox to keep fans onside or maybe he wants to see if we get CL. I'd like him to stay especially if we lose Coutinho. He's got quality.

Coutinho
Just a quality player. Goals, assists, taking players out of the game, technically superb with and without the ball and just a joy to watch. His last 10 games have yielded 6 goals, 6 assists and five Motm awards. I'd like to think Barca get Ozil on the cheap (or other targets basicalky) and we manage to keep him but whatever happens we can't say he ain't trying while in red so let's just enjoy him while he's here.

Squad
Looks strong and balanced with everyone doing their bit. I like that. Clearly given our back line yesterday we could use a new cb but Klopp seems to be keeping things fresh and adjusting tactics well.

Overall I'm looking up and not down.

To be fair if it is injuries, then it does make sense for Can to move to Serie A as the pace is fair bit slower.

In fairness he'll be paid a lot more at us than Juve can offer I'd imagine too.

If he goes to City it's clearly a money consideration.

"There are times when Henderson is our most advanced and the closing down aspect means that sharp sprints are a must."

This is very much up for debate. This is more down to Henderson as a player than it is Klopp's tactics imo.

Otherwise we would see both Lucas & Can do it, if it was the tactical instructions to play in that position.

You only have to look at his immaculate hair to see that Can has an ego.

That’s ok, lots of players do.

I think he wants to play every game and feel like he’s the main man because he knows he won’t be the main man for Germany if he’s not getting that at club level.

It’s a shame he’s probably going but we got him cheap because of his contract issues so can’t complain at him dictating his own career.

I personally don’t think there is much we could do to make him stay and he’s just going to be the type who likes to move around.

You are not going to get a whole team of players staying for 10 years in this day and age.

Another game without defeat on Saturday.

That’s 3 defeats in our last 27 games and our defence is rubbish, our keeper is rubbish, our midfield offers no protection, and our manager is tactically flawed and never makes the right subs.

When are we winning the league then?

You're thinking of the Wijnaldum from last season.

His role has been changed this season. He's been more of the 'shuttler' to help with Coutinho not being an aggressive presser of the ball. He basically holds a decent position defensively and helps with closing down in midfield and then support the forwards with his passing and positioning.

True it has but he is still important to our midfield and when he does not play we do miss him.

He can still do a whole lot more imo.

Having him & Henderson with their needless sideways passing is frustrating as hell.

I don't know why all teams just don't win the league every year.

It's madness.

Who knows?

Maybe next year, maybe in 50.

I’d rather think we had a chance than slit my wrists and say everything is shiiite though.

That's not my point though.

I'm not talking about the extreme fans like RAP but when I did vent my frustration about the squad it was with a view of us putting in a title challenge. Obviously City have taken this to a new level but we have never been in it.

Glad we have improved to get in the top 4 race.

It’s basicalky impossible to be in it when a team wins 14 games in a row.

Unless Utd beat City at the weekend then there will be no title race at all. Just a title procession. Even if Utd do win it doesn’t mean we will get any sort of close race.

I see no reason why we can’t be in the mix for 3rd, possibly 2nd if City beat Utd as that would have the double whammy of them dropping points and effectively killing their morale.
