Anyone speak Spanish?

The BBC are suggesting that Marca are suggesting that Manchester city offered Lionel Messi £850,000 per week to sign for them.

I don’t speak the lingo so I can’t confirm or deny, but do people think paying over three quarter of a million pounds a week to one player in wages is now a legitimate tactic for a club that have difficulty filling their ground?

=====

Think these questions were asked with the likes of Trevor Francis, Alan Shearer, and other record breakers in their heydays

For me, not way is anyone worth that much. But who knows sometime in the future, there may be debates around how much of a bargain Neymar and Messi were.
------------------------------------
Maybe it's better posed by asking would you be happy to see your club spend that much on Messi right now, knowing by the time he gets to the end of that contract he will be a spent force?

if you are really wanting an answer from me, then no.

although the argument about "spent force" doesn't illustrate the full picture.

Breaking down to basics, why would any team want to buy players? To enhance and improve the team in the now; to win things, and to build for the future.

As with any business, entities need to speculate to accumulate; to "invest". Who's to say that "investing" the ludicrous sums being bandied about on the likes of Messi and Neymar doesn't bring an overall net profit over a 3 year period? Why do companies and organisations spend hundreds of millions on advertising? To Joe Public like me, it makes absolutely no sense; but to Chevrolet and that tractor maker, it makes an enormous amount of sense.

"spent force" Messi might be, in 3 years time. But he is just another commodity in the grand scheme of things.

This story was originally announced by the Town Crier and the reported fee was 1,000 Guineas and 30 goats.

1,000 guineas and 30 goats for one GOAT??? Seems a poor trade to me.

Wasn't that the guy who mugged Gary Neville?
Did the GMP ever catch him?
