Possible CL opponents.

So the emphatic dismantling of our group opponents has led us to be group winners, with that comes the advantage of the second leg at home; a bigger advantage for us than many others.

We have Saints away 3 days before the first leg which is on the 13-14th of February, not ideal to be away before the first leg but will have to suck it up.

Who can we meet, well its from:

FC Basel
Bayern Munich
Juventus
Shakhtar Donetsk
FC Porto
Real Madrid

So, who do we prefer? For me I reckon in this order where 1 is the best for us and 6 is the worst:

1.FC Basel....short trip and we should be favs
2.FC Porto...as above, little traveling and we should be favs
3.Shakhtar Donetsk...Feb in the Ukraine, no thanks...brrrrrr
4.Bayern Munich...tough side but klopp will know all about them
5.Real Madrid....not as good as they were but, they have some players.
6.Juventus..dont want these, hard to break down and likely to sneak one in

So thats my ideal opponents, Basle and Porto

Basel are a horrid team to play, especially away. Really gritty.

I think we're quarter finalists material. I even said that before the season started...mainly because there's a lot more space for us in the CL than in the league.

Juve.. Haven't been as solid recently, smashing them would give us a better chance of retaining Emre.

Why is it a bigger advantage for you?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Because we have far better fans.

Last time a knockout CL tie was played at Anfield you could hear a pin drop with the home fans.

It doesn't and shouldn't ever matter who our next opponents are. As Ferdinand and Lampard each said the other night, other teams are going to be wary if not frightened of being picked against us.

Barca, PSG, Real, East Cheam(?) bring it on. It will be the best test yet of how far our manager has got in the team and squad development. And there's a definite bonus there, isn't there, waiting in the wings. If - yes, a big if - we were to beat any of them, what player in his right mind would want to leave the club?

Im sure our attack can go up against the best, our defence could get hideously exposed though

Thing with Liverpool is, who do they actually want?

On paper, teams like Basel and Porto look the easier to play against, but Liverpool have had some problems breaking down opposition before and unfortunately, these teams are no Maribor/Huddersfield quality sides. They are teams worthy of being there and if they come and stick 11 men behind the ball, it makes that even harder because they are better at the back and going forward.

Whereas a top side who play with the ball more, like a Real Madrid or Bayern might play into Liverpool's counter attacking style perfectly. But a gamble against a team with such quality throughout. Juventus are probably the one's to avoid, but it's a tough one.

Porto would be ideal. But I'm just happy that we're there, and we're capable of beating any of them. Especially if we've got a quality centre back in by the time we play them.
