Agüero & Sánchez

Hi people,

Just sounding out your thoughts on this, as I don't follow your squad news close enough to know the answer...

How surprised would you City fans be if Agüero angled for a move in the summer (pre-/post-World Cup)?

Kun's obviously doing great on the scoring front, but the impression I've had since Pep arrived is that Agüero isn't as essential or irreplaceable in his setup as he had been under previous managers.

Would you welcome Alexis Sánchez's if his arrival meant Agüero or any other of your forwards wanting to move on?

Although Sánchez's preferred position is out on the wing, if the rumours of him joining City turn out to be true, wouldn't you be approaching a point where you might have too much competition, if such a thing is possible, for the starting forward positions and one of your stars might want out? Which of your other forwards could you see taking more bench time as time goes by, bearing in mind they're all considerably younger than Agüero?

Considering too that he'll be 30 at the start of next season, would you welcome the idea of thanking Kun for the years of excellent service and allowing him to play his final years elsewhere?

I'd also like to open the discussion to fans of other teams to know how they'd feel about the possibility of signing Agüero, but only if they can keep it civil. Thanks.

nobody is an unrealistic target for City

Auguero’s wages would be a big stumbling block for most teams. Think he is on £250 after tax, not many teams can afford those sort of wages to someone who is fast approaching the twilight of his career.. I think he’ll stay put,

That's less than I earn.

As long as he left for a club outside England he'd go with my blessing after giving 7 years good service and breaking our goal scoring record.

Sanchez would be a welcome addition to any side but i'm not sure i could trust him to be our out and out striker, Would prefer Lewandowski, Kane, Dybala or even Cavani instead. (Unrealistic targets but you never know).

Any of them could move into the realm of realism if they wanted out of their clubs and City were hellbent on landing them.

Not sure Cavani would fit your model. His movement's arguably the best in the business, but his finishing is very unreliable and Pep I would say generally greatly favours quality over quantity of chances. Lewandoski's more ruthless, but is also approaching 30.

The main lure with Sánchez though is that he's available for a signing on fee.

When it comes to established players we'll always be behind Barca and Madrid in first choice no matter how much money we have.

Kane seems very happy at Spurs and Levy would bend us over for £200m plus, Lewandowski or Dybala i can see going to Madrid this summer and Cavani is unhappy but i agree is finishing is erratic at times.

Aguero is going to be very hard to replace.

not entirely true, 10 years of European dominance will change that...

the word 'Manchester' in front of the word City, added with maybe a few CL wins, and domestic dominance also makes City potentially higher than Madrid / Barca in years to come...

'Manchester' is a world wide brand in football, despite the United variety creating it, 'City' will reap the benifits

It's all relative. The days of stars dissing City, à la Kaka, are a thing of the past.

Once you're able to more or less consistently provide a shot at the CL (i.e. regular access to the k.o. rounds), then the main factor is offering the biggest wedge.

Sometimes a footballer might for whatever reason have a club he'd prefer to play for, but he'll very rarely wave goodbye to half the potential wages on a whim.

Neymar's at PSG for good reason.

Managers are also a good pull for players, I think most players would like to play under Pep as he can improve them as a player.

Yeah, likewise location, glamour, past success...

But ... money.
