Klopp Of The Pops Christmas Special

So in 48 hours we will kick off the hectic Xmas schedule away at the Emirates, a tough place to go still and a ground where we haven’t enjoyed that much success over the years.

But how have we got on generally over the Xmas period under our fun loving coach?

Season 1:

A dismal start to Xmas and one of the worst games of Klopps reign. An embarrassing 3-0 defeat at Watford which is our only defeat against them for 30 years or something. Bogdan was hilariously bad and it was just an allround disaster.

Things got better on Boxing Day though as we beat future Champions Leicester City with a Benteke goal. It was one of only 3 defeats for the Foxes in their triumphant season.

Benteke was at it again a few days later, scoring the only goal at Sunderland to make it two 1-0 wins in a row. This was probably the high point of Benteke’s short Liverpool career.

Things went bad again shortly afterwards though, just 48 hours later we rounded off Klopps first Christmas with another dismal away defeat, 2-0 this time at West Ham with Antonio and former red Carroll the scorers.

Played 4, Won 2, Lost 2, For 2, Against 5.

Season 2:

By now we were well into our stride under Klopp and a much tougher proposition.

We started Christmas with an injury time winner at Goodison from Sadio Mane. The ideal Christmas gift and it gave us a much deserved win against a dismal Everton side (as usual).

Our next game was some 8 days later on the 27th. We started slowly against Stoke, falling behind to a Walters goal, but we soon made him pay and ended up 4-1 winners thanks to Lallana, Firmino, Imbula og (remember when people thought he was good ) and a rare Sturridge strike.

Four days later and another Anfield win, this time 1-0 against Peps Man City with Wijnaldum the scorer.

We rounded off Xmas 48 hours later with a poor 2-2 draw at Sunderland. Mane and Sturridge found the net but two penalties from Defoe meant a poor finish to a good Xmas. It was one of our worst results of the season though against a terrible team.

P4 W3 D1 F8 A3

So our overall record is 5 wins, 1 draw and 2 defeats. With 10 scored and 8 conceded. 16pts from 8 games is standard 4th places form over a season.

Somewhat surprisingly we have had four 1-0 wins over Xmas under Klopp. Not a scoreline we are associated with under him. In fact, we have only managed 8 1-0 league wins under him in total so half have come at Xmas. Maybe worth a punt on 1-0 wins over our four games this year.

We had more time to prepare for Arsenal, so anything other than a good performance will be a slap in the face imo.

Then we have another 4 days rest before what will probably be a rejuvenated Swansea come to Anfield. I'm actually dreading this game more than Arsenal. But we've been really really good at home this season. I'll take one of those 1-0 wins right now.

Then it's 3 games in 7 days ending with a visit from the bitters
Navigate through this period with at least 4 points and it's not too bad imo.

Burnley away is hard to call..so I'm not expecting much from that game.

Typical everyone gets to hammer Swansea but when we play them they might have Tony Pulis in charge.

Is Pulis really going to Swansea?

Swansea have veered so far away from what made them a decent side in the league, they deserve to be relegated right now.

Swansea are desperate so Pulis makes sense. Hopefully he will want his Xmas break before joining them.

It’s Koeman or Bilic according to Sky.

They are not interested in Pulis.

I think Pulis will end up back at Stoke.

Think they will be mad to join Swansea. No budget, sell your best players and hope to survive.

Yeah Swansea maxed out under Rodgers and Laudrup.

Only way is down for them.

So a thrilling and frustrating start to Xmas this year.

I’d take a couple of 1-0 wins against Swansea and Leicester.
