How do we feel about Antonio Conte at this

time?

I’m sorry, but I cannot understand how there are some (mainly on twitter) that are calling for him to go. I genuinely don’t understand the thinking.

For a start I don’t know where we’d go after Conte. As much as I didn’t want Carlo sacked, his time should remain in the past imo.

Then add to this I am feckin fed up with the merry-go-round.

I know it doesn’t mean much, especially at our club but I’d love for Conte and the club to agree a contract extension.

Wanting to keep a manager, is behind my calls for the club to financially back our manager during the transfer window. Not because success has made me expectant, but more so because history tells us the Chelsea Manager pays for not winning trophies, with his job.

In conclusion, I do think given the time and patience, Conte could build a Chelsea that most would envy.

Fully agree that Conte shouldn't be pushed, and that any assertions that he should be are us either panicking or being stupid, but we should be planning contingencies in the event he jumps or gets poached (both of which are very possible within the next 18 months).

The Ancelotti thing is delicate. We know if we don't pick him up he'll likely end up at a PL rival, so if there is genuine interest on our part it boils down to a lack of faith in Conte's long term commitment. So until Ancelotti gets a job or Conte signs an extension it's an awkward situation.

Conte is as good a manager as anyone else out there - he is just not getting the support he needs from the board. It's incomprehensible to me - he has to manage with one arm tied behind his back. He worked miracles last season to win the league, but the board can't expect miracles every season. If he agrees to sign a long term contract, the board should agree to back him in the marketplace. Then we'd compete on a level playing field.

The toxic mix of the younger modern day fan and social media means there is always a very short term and intolerant public view opinion on managers and players alike.

Pundits jump on it to make it worse too... i hat the way the game is covered/followed these days

I love Conte and Ancelotti but we should try to keep Conte for the time being.

I much prefer Conte to Ancelotti. I'm not going to claim that Carlo is a poor manager (that would be ridiculous) but i don't think he's got the tactical nouse of Conte or Mourinho, or even Rafa (just listing Chelsea managers). I think looking at Carlo's record at Chelsea, Real and Bayern suggests he's good at continuing the predecessor's good work but can't reinvent the team in the following season with a succession plan. I also think he likes a aged team instead of young developing team he's obviously had a sucessful career, especially at Milan, but I wouldn't want him at Chelsea over Conte

If this was Conte’s first season I don’t think a single Chelsea fan would be unhappy with how things are going at the moment. It’s just because what he achieved last season was so incredible, expectations are ridiculously high

I agree Bats and it is probably compounded even more by the fact that Man City are setting a pace that no-one can live with. In a normal season we would now be quite handily placed for a tilt at the title again but we like everybody else won't even be in City's rear view mirror at the end of the season IMO.

The way City are playing they will win 35 or 36 matches in Premiership this season which is not good from Chelsea's point.

I'm happy with him, we do need to back himin the market though. I also expect him to stay.

Conte is an excellent manager and with the possible exception of Simeone the very best manager we could possibly hope to have at the club. He is literally the ceiling and anyone else will be a step down.

He hasn't been backed by the club as well as he should have been last summer. That's just a fact sadly.

Reading between the lines it looks like he'll move on in the summer and Ancelotti will replace him.

You have a source. Could you answer Frankie's point?

I have a source, I spoke to him about Conte a while back and he says he's happy enough there. That doesn't mean things won't change but it's enough for me.
