Rhian Brewster Racist Abuse

Surprised hasn't been posted yet, potentially lost in the VVD news, but here's Rhian's interview with the guardian talking about the abuse he's reviewed (multiple times) at just 17 on pitch, playing international clubs/teams.

https://www.theguardian.com/football/2017/dec/28/liverpool-rhian-brewster-racial-abuse-england-uefa

Was initially surprised but then kind of not surprised that this may happen a lot. Quick offensive backchats during the game that either don't get reported, or do but nothing much gets done about it - potentially/probably due to lack of organisation of what to do with on pitch incidents like these.

Brave to Rhian for speaking out at a young age, measured intelligent interview, if a bit shocking to read at parts. I wonder if it will encourage more black players, or any players, to speak out about the extent of racial abuse received on pitch.

One contributing factor to the disparity in arrest rates is that racial minorities commit
certain crimes at higher rates. Specifically, data suggests that black Americans—
particularly males—tend to commit violent and property crimes at higher rates than
other racial groups.
9 Other studies, however, demonstrate that higher crime rates are
better explained by socioeconomic factors than race: extremely disadvantaged
neighborhoods experience higher rates of crime regardless of racial composition. 10
Because African Americans constitute a disproportionate share of those living in
poverty in the United States,11 they are more likely to reside in low-income
communities in which socioeconomic factors contribute to higher crime rates."

So really its nothing to do with racism whatsoever, its generally do to with living in poorer neighborhoods which is a complete bang on point of view.

What are we blaming race for the fact they are poor?

Racism is a funny old thing. You can lose you job over it and get ostracized for saying a racist comment in the UK, yet in other countries it is an accepted way of life.
