Phil 'The Power' Taylor

End of an era tonight as the most successful player in the history of the sport - and possibly any sport - finally bowed out.

Absolute legend, who I'm glad to have witnessed live half a dozen times, and got his autograph twice.

The World Matchplay trophy, which he lifted an amazing 16 times, has been renamed in his honour.

Sport will likely never see anyone as successful as him ever again. Absolute genius with an arrow.

Enjoy your retirement Phil, you've earned it

Agree DJ. Absolute pig of a man in looks and personality

You judge men based on their looks?

The world we live in, I think we all do. Would you be happy if you had a longhaul flight and had to sit next to someone the size of Phil Taylor?

Andy Fordham called it in when he said that Taylor was a great dart player but he couldn't stand him as a person.

My instinct is that when somebody says "trust me" as often as he does you shouldn't. I hope that Sky don't use him as a pundit but I fear they will.

Great player and pretty much changed the way darts was played.

Let himself down a bit in recent years with his antics and interviews, but still a legend.

Should've won SPOTY, will always be a better sportsman than AP McCoy.

Great player and a huge part of the reason darts has become so big.

Doesn’t come across as the nicest at times though.

Always liked Taylor but bit cringey last night when he kept talking to the crowd and camera, came across a bit David Brentish. Could be a good pundit though as he will say what he thinks.

If we are going to be exposed to his patronising back handed compliments as a pundit then I shall be watching with the sound down. Hopefully his past indiscretions with the ladies will put Sky off.

Mardle is bad enough without him sitting in the booth.
Funny hearing him saying that ‘I know sky and Barry Hearn don’t want me to go’, why not, darts is in better shape now than at any other time and it has coincided with the end of his dominance.
Goodbye the player, good riddance the man.
Was Ronnie and Ricky Hatton and Robbie Williams watching Phil, you old bulls hitter you.

He was (still is) a great dart player but there is something about him that I do not like. Especially in recent years, the way he patronizes opponents after he has beaten them, he gives out back handed compliments and acts like silly little boy when he knows he is not going to win.

He`s packed in because he doesn`t like not being the best player anymore and knows he has gone past his best. He`s still good enough to pick up the odd tournament but that`s obviously not good enough.

Sky could do with some new pundits though since Bristow was axed, that line up of Harrington, Mardle and Part needs fresh ideas, not sure Taylor is that man though.

Great player, cocky and arrogant, tried every trick in the book to get under Cross's skin... Didn't work, and his day is done, the Cross MVG rivalry could be a great one... Anderson too..

That's called being a winner and having a winning mentality, it's like footballers who are playing at such a high level and it drops with age. Same with Taylor, he's getting too old now and losing his ability
