The Molineux Hotel

Come in. Welcome all. I've decided that in this world of virtual reality we can once again open the doors of the famous Molineux Hotel, and enjoy a refreshment at the bar from the master brewers of Springfield Brewery!

I was interested to see the landscaping that's been developed around the front of the Molineux Hotel. (I used to work there back in the '70s.)

It looks very much as if it has been designed to emulate what the hotel's gardens would have looked like prior to the football ground being built. The hotel was Molineux House back then of course.

Interesting fact: When I worked in the Molineux Hotel it was run by a fairly unremarkable company called Stadia Catering, based in Stoke. The boss was a guy called Peter Coates.

He sold out to another catering company, and his family then started an online betting business based from a portacabin.

That business is the behemoth Bet365!

Peter Coates eventually became chairman of Stoke City FC, a position he still holds.

Didn't know that Bute, interesting. Fair play to the council for making such a good job of the renovation, it was in a shocking state for such a long time.

I watched a video on yow tube last night made by some geezer with a video camera wandering around the ground just before the early 90s re build. They had a wander round the derelict north bank and past the hotel at its worst. It's not Spielberg but it's worth a watch:

No idea if that will work!

Amazing video. Thanks for finding thst.

What a mess the place was. The lack of sound makes the eeriness more acute. Funny to see that guy with the Manders shirt. That was the same shirt I wore to the Swansea game last week!

Tino will be interested to see the red seats. Bizarre that the new John Ireland stand was so far back from the pitch.

The old Waterloo road stand was so tight to the road they had to make the space to build a modern stand on that side, which of course SJH eventually did. There's a couple of great photos of the John Ireland being built behind the old Molineux street stand and another of the finished stand with one of the street lights still in situ but now inside the stadium. I'll try and find a link.

If anything the ground was worse after they built that new stand. So far away from the pitch it meant there was no atmosphere

Donovan Wilson played the second half of Port Vale's match against Yeovil. He didn't score, and it ended a draw.

A sad anniversary today, as we remember Dean Richards, who died in 2011. One of the greatest players I have seen at Wolves. Departed this world way too soon. Many will remember his wonderful football talents.

I remember those days clearly. Had to take binoculars to the games.
