Cyrille Regis

Very sad news to hear that Cyrille Regis has passed away.

Many black players credit Cyrille with inspiring them to play and as part of the 3 degrees he really helped black players get more chances in British football.
Real powerhouse of a man with amazing touch and just a good bloke, it’s no surprise fans of all midlands clubs sung his praises.

Best wishes to his extended football family and friends.

I met him when i used to play football at Coventry's training ground. Back in the day where the players would be in the same canteen as us.
A true gent, would always have time to chat and sign autographs. Football has lost a legend today.

Remember watching MOTD back then when the three degrees were playing. My Dad was wiping way a tear or two during the game. I asked him why. "Because these three men are going to change football in England, for the better."

Too right. Loved watching all three play. But, Regis was
sublime. Powerful, and yet amazing touch. What a player. What a man. What a pioneer. Sadly, sadly missed. And again, another great one gone too young.

One of my Dad's and my heroes.

RIP Cyrille

Regis, a player that when he came at you you new he was there!..

Great player at a worst time for black players, but got on with things in the best possible way!..

RIP!.

Given a donkey like Andy Carroll was sold for £30m+ a few years ago. What, in the current market, would a player like Cyril be worth? The guy was an absolute gem of the game (as was Laurie C). I'd say £70m+ in current baffling transfer values, if not more. He'd tear modern defences apart.

When you want to explain what pace is, show them a video of Cyrille Regis in full flow outpacing a defender.

He got slaughtered off the pitch in that era. How he survived & kept his dignity is anyone's guess.
I remember that great 35 yarder he scored against Norwich. What a goal that was.
He had terrific pace & agree with VOF, would be worth a fortune in today's transfer market.

A true measure of the man. And a measure of the
mental midgets that attacked him and others. Small
minded people tend to bring out the greatness in
those they attack.
