James Rodriguez

So all or a lot of attention is being drawn towards this guy as The Next Big Thing. Played a blinder in the WC for Colombia, scored the goal of the tournament, of which later, an absolute screamer. One of the best goals in recent years.

Signed for Real, didn't quite make it, loaned out to Bayern Munich on a two year deal - costly for our club to break if it took the plunge - and apparently a target.

Great player, scorer of fantastic goals? undoubtedly.

But it got me thinking. 'One of the best goals in recent years?'

Em, not quite, not as good as an absolute belter, a goal which puts Rodriguez's efforts in the shade.

The striker, back to goal, outside the penalty box. Takes the high ball on his chest. Doesn't let it fall on the ground. Spins, and with one smack, ball in the back of the next. Goalie will probably getting ready to dive for it any minute now. THE best goal in recent years for me.

Against PSV. 19th December 2017. By a young and highly talented Red.

Does anyone know if Rhian is 17 yet?

Any update on his injury.

Rodriguez? Nah, don't bother mate, hopefully Brewster is on the mend.

Well said Jimmy

We've got better players and there are better players out there, nothing against the lad but not for me.

Agreed, certainly no Lallana of Nazareth but apart from Robert Powell who is?

Overrated from the World Cup?

Not sure about that. One of the best things layers in France the season before, one of the best in Spain the season after (made team of the season as well for any doubters). But because Real have a midfield with Kroos and Modric, he couldn’t establish himself after that. Ended up playing out wide, and so obviously never going to compete with Ronaldo or Bale when he’s not in his best position.

Now at Bayern and doing well. Standard armchair supporter chat to say he’s overated from the World Cup just because after that he couldn’t establish himself in one of the best teams in recent times.

Yes overrated, the amount of crap I read about him being the next world superstar was ridiculous, he's obviously very good player, but the hype was unreal at the time.

I think he's overrated too. Always appears to have poor work rate whenever I watch him play (could be wrong though).

He hasn’t played/been linked with Southampton so Klopp can’t be interested.

Em, just in case anyone's missing the point of my original post, the underlying message was, and is, that I rate Rhian Brewster very highly indeed. I do not underrate him. Not by a long chalk, country mile, by a nats, etc., take your pick.
