I know Busby, but we’ve got a pretty large squad and there’s options for all the positions. I can’t see many departures either. We’ve signed a winger, now a midfielder is needed and a fullback like we all want.

i expect 3 or 4 players to leave.

I still think what we need most is a player who can add some control to a game as opposed to another robust midfielder such as Nainggolan as much as I like him.

I'd like a Modric or Kroos kind of player.

The one who pulls the strings and links everything together.

Add that player to what we have and I think we'd be well set. It's up to the club to identify one though and it would be good if we could get someone before they go elsewhere and we have to buy them for a serious amount of money.

For argument's sake, if we signed Kroos or Modric, how would you fit them in with Pogba and Matic? Or would you drop Matic?

And if you say you'd play Modric and Matic in a two and Pogba at number ten, you will get one of these as well as one of these

I think people have mentioned, more importantly, backup for Matic and Pogba. If TFM comes back, with Herrera, Tuanzebe and McTominay (played as a DM lots for the Reserves and looked good there) also in the squad, I'm happy that we have enough to find cover for Matic.

But what do we do when Pogba isn't available? We can't sign another top drawer midfielder to just sit on the bench waiting for him to get injured. That's the trickiest question for me.

Yes. doesnt make a blind bit of difference, he is a fantastic player.

To play with Pogba ahead of Matic in a three man midfield and so we'd have some quality cover of sorts if Pogba were ever to get injured for a lengthy spell.

We don't have enough quality midfielders as it is. With Carrick retiring and whether Fellaini goes or not, we'll need someone and we'd be better off signing a different type of midfielder to any of the ones we have because if we're going to go far in Europe or win the league, we're going to need somebody who can handle and manoeuvre the ball well under pressure against quality opposition and give us some control which we usually lack in these games.

Fair enough.

I'm enjoying seeing:

I'm expecting Alexis to take Mata's free role when he joins, and I can see that in some bigger games, we'll want to switch Lingard or Mata (who might get time net to Pogba as he did early last season) out with another number eight.

I'd thought that might have been Herrera last season, but maybe we need someone who is able to bring a bit more calm and take the sting out of games, recycle more cleanly and quickly, etc.
