New striker - lots of jokes but it...

...clearly points to the club not being confident Conte will stay beyond the end of the season and thus they do not want to spend lots of money now. Save that for new signings in the summer whether that still be under Conte or under a new coach if Conte leaves.

Emerson is a decent signing since we need a good back up at LWB/LB. Dzeko is a good player but really not one for the future and cannot play CL this season for us. Probably the best option we are linked to at present though.

Of the others, despite the ridicule, Crouch would actually not be a bad option as a stop gap. Give him 18 month deal like he has left at Stoke so no huge outlay. He's experienced, stays fit (unlike Carroll), provides a different option to Morata when needed and would accept the role of back up to Morata unlike Dzeko.

He is also a far better player than people give him credit for. He's English, can help the younger players and Barca would not know what to make of him.

Yes, he is knocking on in football terms at 37 but still seems fit despite that. Must be the need to keep Abbey Clancy happy!

Cue trolling...

I do think that Conte goes in the summer.

My issue with this is, i don't think the board have yet registered...........They can have a "yes man" or a winner, they probably can't have both.

One of the major differences in ideology between Italy and England (and thus Conte and our board) is the attitude to older players. In Italy age seems to matter less as long as the player is fit.

Maldini and Totti are classic examples and players like Chiellini and Bonucci still seem to be rated very highly.

Our board does not want spend lots of money on older players since they have no resale value. Conte wants players like Bonucci, Vidal etc... who are all the wrong side of 30 now.

I can understand the Board's view, not least when we want to bring through younger players but it doesn't give us a co-ordinated approach.

What ever happened to FFP btw? We read that Inter and Roma need to sell to comply with the FFP regulations yet Man City and PSG seem to be able to spend what they want and not fall foul of them.
