Jack Hayward

After the sad death of Barnsley's saviour Patrick Cryne over the weekend I stumbled across an article about other people who saved their local clubs and Jack Hayward was the one that stood out to me.

I didn't know much about the guy at the time a lot of his tenure was before I fully became interested in football, but the passion he had for Wolverhampton and him being a local lad reminded me of Cryne albiet a bit more richer!

His era at Wolves with you back in the top division (though a short stint) and the stadium being redeveloped must've been unthinkable in the early 1980s when you were in financial difficulty. What a legend he was for your club. Just a shame for you the next owner didn't quite have the same impact, though you seem to be back on the up now.

He really did save us no doubt about it.

Wolves could easily have folded without Jack and although we have stalled as a championship club for most of the last generation, All now seems to be in place to move to the next level. Finding people like Jack who had a genuine affinity for the club and deep pockets is a rarity. Won’t be forgotten in these parts for a long time
