Unfortunately that has become the way with young defenders, Managers don;t want to risk them at CB so they play them out wide for a few years and then move them inside when they are more experienced. Shame as developing in CB is more productive.

Didn't do much harm to Franco Baresi, Sergio Ramos, Javier Mascherano, Alessandro Nesta, Gerard Pique or Phil Jones.

None of them played exclusively as centreback in their early years of development.

I'm sure there are myriad other examples.
