The transfer window

I think I said at the time of Couts' departure to Barca that I couldn't envisage a January signing, and that appears to be the case. I'm somewhat surprised, as reported in the Echo, a very reliable source I might add, that some fans were begging for "someone, anyone" to be signed. As our boss has said, time and again, he didn't like Jan signings and that only in exceptional circumstances would he contemplate making a signing. Let's face it, he isn't the kind to make a signing just for signings sake.

Making a signing to save face, a la Barca last summer? That's not him.

I trust JK, he will forget far more about his squad and it's capabilities than we will ever learn.

Yes, at the eleventh hours there may be a surprise signing (I'm over the moon on the Gallagher signing, another Jock! And because he only cost a messily two hundred grand some fans are banging off. There are some who youbwill never please).

If the boss is happy to run with his current squad then I'm happy too.

''Those who criticise the club have a point when the manager has such a meagre net spend''

It was only a few seasons ago we were criticised for a high net spend having signed crap players. Now we have a low net spend and good players and you think the club should be criticised for it?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Perhaps I didn't word that very well. The second sentence in that paragraph explains it better. Basically if we fall short of our goals (i.e. no trophies and miss out on the top 4), then critics of the club will point at our net spend.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It make more sense to focus on the fact we sold one of our best players and have no interest in replacing him because we have ox and lallana who's always injured

So the club knew cout wanted to leave and haven't looked at at possible replacements in that time.. shocking

What?

That makes no sense at all.

Clearly we have looked at replacements. We just haven’t signed any of them yet.

Big difference.

With money to spend it's a risk not to improve the squad. Only time will tell whether it's the right decision or not.

I see the logic in not bringing in a replacement for Coutinho at this juncture, although we are undoubtedly a poorer side without him. However there are other area's which could be looked at. cough... cough *KEEPER* ... cough.

Suspect things will be all hunkey-dory unless we end up bailing from any remaining cup competitions and struggle to retain Top 4. In that event questions will be asked.
Sports following is a comparative art.. if we see success in other teams... Man U will likely win silverware again this year, the title is all-but secured for Man C, that's the point at which our 'work in progress' status risks becoming a little tired and over-used, particularly if our activities in the market don't align with our ambitions and the only activity in the trophy cabinet is the cleaner.

Let's hope it doesn't come to this.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
So why don't we address the elephant in the room?
Can we confidently say that as things stand our team is strong enough to get us Top4?
Looking at the other top4 contenders I'd say City, Chelsea and United have strong enough squads to pretty much be guaranteed of Top 4.
This imo leaves ourselves, Arsenal and Spurs to fight it out for the remaining spot.
The big question to me is whether we can confidently say that despite the gunners' addition of Mkhi, the removal of Sanchez''s negative impact on their squad, and their traditional run of wins they put together towards the end of every season, our squad is currently strong enough to pip them to Top4 regardless???

I believe that if Klopp does not manage to get us Top4 this season, then he has taken our club backwards and shud be replaced. That the 'work in progress' argument is just a pacifier for mediocrity and Im sure most of us have absolutely no energy to see our team back in the Europa league when we shud be progressing towards making title challenges. We remain hopeful that JK gets it right tho, but if he doesn't deliver, then he shud depart imo.

Crazy.

Backwards from 8th place or what?

Unless a better manager becomes available and willing to join us then you're talking crap.

Talking of replacing Klopp is ridiculous.

My sentiments exactly, selbst. The very thought of the club not looking, scouting, assessing continually throughout would defy logic.

The simple fact of the matter, in my view, is that Jurgen and his team have looked, assessed, and made the decision not to enter the market. Put another way, any player that they do fancy is currently beyond their reach, or, irrespective of Couts leaving or staying, they were not going to go for until the summer.

We have seen where buying badly has got us in the past. Some times it is better to swerve the wrong signings and wait using what you have already. Hopefully we should have enough squad wise for top 4. I suspect next summer Real Madrid's aim to catch up Barca will start off a whole lot of transfers, hopefully Klopp and the team will get the transfers we want doing early before players go off for the World cup.
