Nadal will breakdown before he eclipses Fed's grandslam total. But even if he does, he's still not a better tennis player as far as I'm concerned. Don't give a shiiiiiit how many French open titles he wins.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I've heard that said about him many times before in the past 5 years, and he's had these resurgences in form and won majors.
Let's say Fed doesn't win any again, and Nadal wins 6 more by the time he reaches Fed's age (5 years time). Nadal is on 22 grand slams, and Fed on 20. Suddenly Fed being the GOAT wouldn't be as convincing.

Taking nothing away from Fed, but Nadal, Murray and Djokovic are nowhere near their best.

To be fair he beat an in form Nadal last year, which was the best win of his career in my opinion.
If anything you can say that makes Fed better, in that he has been able to find his best more than the other guys. Fed's consecutive semi final appearance record speaks for itself.
He hasn't let age catch up with him, whereas going by Murray's and Djok's struggles it looks for the time being like they have, but being a few years younger I guess we'll wait and see if they can recover.

There's no disputing his status but I've always rooted for whoever he's playing against. There's something about his preppy look and monogrammed kit and the kind of super-fans he attracts and the snide remarks he has made in defeat and victory while enjoying the reputation of a gentleman and Mirka's face.
Anyone but Federer!

helps when the GS organisers give you a massive helping hand !
Cilic had prepared for an outdoor match
Federer has only played one match during the day (and that day it wasnt 40(c) ..but 26(c))
the weather today wasn't as hot as last week when djokovic and co were playing in 40(c)...and yet they decided to close the roof (everyone knows federer's playing style benefits hugely from the still conditions you get from playing indoors)
hugely disappointed with the way this years Ozzie Open was organised...such blatant bias towards Federer ...obviously influenced by the big commercial deals etc surrounding a sporting icon like federer

Phenomenal player and undoubtedly the GOAT, at present.
Agree with Spurtle, Nadal has years on Fed, and is still only 4 slams behind.
I think for overall consistency you have to say Fed is better. But I do think if Nadal has stayed fit he wouldn’t won 25-30 slams over his career.
