I think the gap is bigger now than it has ever been, personally.

Which is why I think the financial regulations will suit fans of the big clubs but anyone outside that will be consigned to playing for top half for the next 50 years.

Bold statement and can't imagine that's correct if Laporte were to pick up a long term injury in the summer.

I think we’d be fine if it was just one injury. Two and he might well go back in the market.

The priority will be cover for Fernandinho next.

Leicester was a real anomaly, I don’t see that happening again for a very very long time, if ever. That really was a case of a lot of things all coming together at the same time.

This bit bugs the hell out of me:-

The Glazers, who saddled United with enormous debt

...............

The debt would only be on United if the banks wanted the Glazers to pay them back, and they couldn't.

As that is never going to happen, then there really isn't any debt, other than on paper.

I think it's far fetched to believe he'd throw a kid in for any long term period - given his lack of doing so up to now.

I know, that’s why he’s fourth choice rather than third. If Laporte was injured, then we have Stones and Otamendi. It only becomes an issue if there are two long term injuries.

Okay fair enough - so he's not back up for Laporte then, he's back up for your 3rd choice centre half!

Semantics.

I know.

Ah, yes, essentially Otamendi is back up for Laporte (although I think the three will interchange a fair bit)

Real Madrid have shown in recent years you don't have to spend big every season to win the CL. I think Real Madrid squad cost about 71.6% less than Man City last season.
