Not much to say about last night....

I don't have much to say about last night so, in honour of Matth, here's a little pastiche of his videos.

We do need to bounce back at the weekend though and I think Jose may go exactly the same again to see if they can right last night's wrong.

I called for pretty much that line up last night and I can admit that it went wrong. Three of Matic, Pogba and Lingard is OK when pressing forward at home against a team from the lower half of the table but away, for now at least, I think it's probably best if we go in with three specialist midfielders.

The positive is that it seems Jose has identified that midfield is the issue and he'll rectify that in summer. If only Carrick was ten years younger!

I was happy with the selection. Just dont understand why we seemed to play 4-2-3-1 instead of 4-3-3.

However, the whole team had an off night.

Because Lingard isn't a CM

Our good record recently had him in a midfield 3 alongside Matic and Pogba. It got the best out of Pogba and Lingard was scoring most games.

I don't know why Jose decided to change the shape for Spurs. Pogba can't be trusted in a midfield 2 defensively. Matic had a shocking game as well but he was going to be hung out to dry because of the formation.

It should be a 4-1-2-3 system with Matic sitting in front of the back four and Lingard and Pogba a bit more advanced. Sanchez and Martial coming inside as well should give us enough bodies in midfield.

Last night however we were all over the place and, in hindsight, Herrera and Matic should probably have been in there.

Having said that I am pleased that we did try and go with an attacking emphasis as this is ultimately how I want us to play. It just looks though, going by last night, that Jose is perhaps right to be a bit more cautious in the big games right now.

I don't think the line up was the issue, it was the tactics.

You can't play wide full backs high up the pitch against a side like Spurs. You can't leave Lingard in behind Lukaku without the ball. You can't have Pogba in a 2 man midfield, he doesn't track runners.

Sanchez and Martial weren't helping out their fulls backs this resulted in Trippier having all the time the world to set up Jones for their second. Young didn't track his man for the first.

Yesterday shown up all of our problems which a lot of us have been talking about all season, you can mask over the issues at home to Stoke or Bournemouth, you can't at Spurs, City or Chelsea.

Bit of a myth. He played the role once or twice, but not every game (I can only think of Burnley). We have setup the way we did yesterday a few times too. You just don't see us without the ball as much against Yoevil, Stoke or Derby.

Tactically we're still all over the place.

I'll happily admit they're not the best. I look forward to you showing us how it's done.

Obviously Matth is the number one Welsh fan out of you lot, and if you're number 3, who is number 2?
