If they're going to sit deep why do we need 2 players in the base of midfield, with one of our most creative players sitting along side Matic playing 60 yard passes?

Every now and then, when very bored, I will look back at the match day threads. One of the common whines among the many is that Pogba is playing too deep.

Yet a few days later the same posters are coming out with a formation playing Pogba alongside Matic.

It is just mental.

JUsy the other week Pogba was in a midfield two against Stoke. He played very well. There is no issue at all with him playing in a midfield two against smaller sides who sit back

Against better sides, nope. But against Newcastle he would be fine there. It’s a weird question you’ve asked about Pogba not playing well in a midfield two. He’s had a very good season on the whole and the vast majority of good games he’s had was in a midfield two

Small teams - fine. Bigger sides, put him in a midfield three

It’s more about how people do these line ups on here tbh. Just laziness. Pogba has more of a role like this against smaller sides

When people ever do line ups on here (which reflect the reality of where players are) it just looks weird and people always refer back to the 4-2-3-1 formation

When people type it out I doubt anyone ever thinks Pogba and Matic are always shoulder to shoulder in the pitch. I’m sure everyone that does 4-2-3-1 realises Pogba is always the more advanced one

Why?

You don't need two DM's for any match.

If you do, then your defence is crap.

The issue at Tottenham was both Tatics being wrong and the players not being at the races. We were carp. Move on and make sure such things don't become a habit.

My real issue is that we know how Tottenham set up so to play Matic and Pogba together in the middle was suicide. You need an extra man in there.

We do tend to play our best football in a sort of 433 rather than a 4231 (41131 or however you want to pit these variations of formation)
