Wolves v QPR Match Preview [LIVE]

On Saturday 10th February 1979 Wolves played QPR at Loftus Road, the result was a 3-3 draw.
On Saturday 10th February 2018 Wolves host QPR at Molineux but the result could be very different!

If Ian Holloway does a fraction of the homework that Nuno Espirito Santo does, he will by now have watched a re-run of Wolves game against Sheffield United. He may even have picked up on the post-match comments from Blade’s boss Chris Wilder who said, "They were in the mood and we couldn't lay a glove on them, so congratulations to the opposition because they were outstanding today - they fully deserved the result.
Sometimes you've got to hold your hands up and say that we've been outplayed by arguably the best team in the division by a long way." Either way, he should be afraid, very afraid!

In the reverse fixture at Loftus Road, Holloway’s team ran out 2-1 winners but that was back in October and on last Saturday’s showing, Nuno’s wolf pack are in no mood to let anyone do ‘the double’ over them. Playing on a small pitch in front of a small crowd is what the QPR players are used to but inevitably, those conditions are not ideal for Wolves. On Saturday Molineux will again be packed and with the South Bank in fine voice, the atmosphere in the stadium will bear little resemblance to Loftus Road. In addition, as if the dazzling football displayed by their four Portuguese stars were not enough for the home crowd, they now have the mouth-watering prospect of newly arrived Benik Afobe to add to the excitement.

QPR currently occupy 15th place in the table with 36 points. They have won 3 of their last 5 games however 2 of those wins were against Burton Albion and Barnsley both well below them in the league. Sandwiched between those wins were losses to Bristol City and Middlesbrough. Arguably their best result of the season was a home win against Cardiff City on New Year’s Day, a result which can only be explained by the Cardiff players suffering hangovers due to the previous evening’s celebrations!

If Ian Holloway has done his homework he will know that the defensive man-mountain Willy Boly who was previously missing due to injury will be in the starting line-up. He should not expect to see Roderick Miranda, Danny Batth, Bright Enobakhare or Ben Marshall all of whom featured in the reverse fixture. He should expect to see a re-born Ivan Cavaleiro, a fully fit Helda Costa, leading goal scorer Diogo Jota and a hungry for goals Benik Afobe and as already stated, he should be afraid, very afraid!

Gem’s prediction 4-0

I'm quite happy to be the lone wolf when it comes to Afobe. He's not the answer if we're to be serious about both promotion and holding our own and progressing in the Premiership.

I'd be more than content to see both Mir and Enobakhare ahead of Afobe.

So to clarify you would be more happy with two unproven players the next four months rather than one that is as good a striker as we have had at wolves the last decade.

I doubt he would have started anyway. More likely Cavaleiro, Costa and Jota upfront, in an unchanged line-up.

Point being that we have a very good option now as back up Wolfie and if it were goalless after 60 mins I think every wolves fan on the planet bar you would want to see afobe enter the fray and not Mir.

Feel a bit sorry for Mir. Not really been given a proper chance yet and has already been written off.

I see Afobe has been in the press a few times this week again. Loves a bit of self promoting PR does that lad. Thinks he’s a brand.

Oh ok then. May as well close the forum down and stop discussing things then.

In fairness Tam, Mir is clearly a talent..BUT right here right now I'd trust Afobe more than he and Leo to get us the goals....and as for Sunny's preference of rather playing Bright well as talented as he may be he's another I don't trust to score regularly enough

I agree Afobe is a proven striker at this level. Just feel Mir wasn’t really given a chance.

I thought Mir looked impressive when he came on as a sub against Swansea. Almost scored with a header.

I don't think Mir was for the here and now anyway, basically his was just too good a deal to turn away by the look of it so we took him.
