Matty Fryatt Retires from Football

Real shame when a long term injury ends a players career and yesterday ex Leicester and Forest striker Matty Fryatt decided to retire from football aged 31.

He talks about travelling all over Europe to get his Achilles sorted, crying in agony when he tried to walk and the humiliation he felt on the training ground.

Was a super player for us especially during that league one season when he was hands down the best striker in the division for me. Scored in all 4 leagues and looked very good for Forest when fit - definitely deserved a longer shot at the top level which he had briefly with Hull

Well done Matty - always welcome back at Leicester and I’m sure you would be at Forest

Remember you lot coming to elland Road, and him and (I think) Matty Oakley celbrating a goal in front of the Kop trying to rile up the home fans. Lucky not to get tw@tted.

Also there was a number of top strikers in League One that year. Rickie Lambert, Simon Cox and Becks, as well as Hooper and Fryatt.

My favourite Walsall youth product. Better than Will grigg who seems to get a lot more hype. There were a few rumours we'd bring him back

Sad to hear he's been forced to retire. On his day he could be deadly. Good luck for the future Matty

A great striker.
Particularly in the 08/09 League one season 32goals
in all competirions. Consistent and built a brilliant
partnership with Steve Howard. Unfortunately,he
suffered more than his fair share of injuries, and it looks
lijke thats caught up with him.

62 goals in 189 games for Leicester.
Not bad for a Craig Leveine signing.
Good Luck Matty, and thanks for the memoties.

Regretfully Forest never saw the best of him but I remember feeling excited that he was signing after the way he played before that.
So Matty hangs up his boots. Good luck in your endeavours fella

Simon Cox

What a fraud - would love to hear what Forest fans have to say about him.

Beckford was another one - time reveals all and those two went on to show they couldn’t cut it at the top level

Rickie Lambert clearly could and Fryatt did well in the PL for Hull. A cut above those two other jokers

Matty was interviewed at length on the Bootroom last night. The Birch said that he will bring him onto the pitch when he next does a Leicester legends at half time. Scored back to back hat-tricks. Matty is part of our history with that fabulous Div 1 season. Thanks again to Hollow-words for taking us down!

Loved a bit of Matty Fryatt back in the day. Him and Howard were the ones who bounced us back from League 1; ultimately goals are everything.

It's a great shame he hasn't been able to do more. I remember him showing some real top quality form in the month before Brian Stock walloped him. It would be great to see him back at the King Power at a half time soon.

I seem to recall him playing along side Ian Hume.
Both players have had a fair amount of bad luck.
Then we have the Mahrez situation no comparison in stress levels.

Really sad to hear this. Best of luck, Matty.
