So these 2 have been together at this club for almost 7 years now. Have they ever, once, looked like striking up a partnership?
Both of them have managed to look decent when playing next to Bailly, Rojo or even Blind. But put them together and it's nearly always a calamity.
Not a fan of Rojo but id have him in until Bailly comes back. Considering how long S+J have been playing together (going back to the England youth set ups) it's incredible how they manage to bring out the absolute worst in each other.
Smalling and Jones

They aren’t at fault today. They would have kept a clean sheet if Pogba actually bothered to compete the ball.

We lost the game because of a Smalling dive.
How does that even happen.

Its because they don't have a brain between them. At minimum we should be moving one of them on after this season. I tend to waver between which one I'd rather not have. Maybe its Smalling still since we have plenty of other options that can play right side.

Jones and Rojo look okay together, I'd go with that and sell Smalling to Arsenal in the summer

Smalling is abysmal, he’s been here 8 years and hasn’t improved at all. Another bang average English CB.

They're both better than Lindelof tho... Bring in better by all means but I'd sell the worst first

The other thing that truly annoys me is how one footed Smalling is. Valencia was like that but made a conscious effort to change and it shows. How can someone who is paid millions of pounds a season and does almost nothing else but play and practise footballing skills be so scared of kicking a ball with their non-dominant foot? Disgraceful.

He's bad enough with his "good foot", don't encourage him to be even worse

Can you tell my what exactly smalling did wrong today? He went down easily looking for a foul but so what? It was not even in a dangerous area.
The resulting free kick was defended poorly as a team
Easy to blame smalling when Pogba, martial and sanchez were rubbish today
Lingard was average and lukaku was 5/10 (which is good by his standards)

Statistically.... Didn't win a tackle in the entire game (according to squawka stats)
