Maguire or Keane?

Not sure what's gone wrong with Michael Keane since he moved to Everton.
Totally agree with this article, we certainly got the better deal!!

I think another ex loanee from Burnley was the better player - Ben Mee who’s moved from FB to CB.

It can make a difference what team you play for and who you play with.

Take the example of Wes Morgan. He looked very suspect at PL level until he was paired with Huth. Then he won the league when the full backs were changed as well - but it was really the step change when Huth came into the team that was so notable in the great escape season. The whole team was lifted defensively by Huth’s arrival despite the fact that he’s an out an out defender with not much ability with the ball.

I don’t know Keane’s situation at Everton well enough, but if he’s been without a regular partner it can often affect form and confidence. Or was he reliant on others at Burnley for that defensive organisation (ref Morgan and Huth)?

Harry Maguire will not be playing for Leicester City next season. Let's hope we don't have another Mahrez situation as his value will sky rocket if he plays at the World Cup, Man Utd already rumoured for a 50M offer

Wouldn't touch Michael Keane with a barge pole. Rather have Roy Keane at centre back.

Michael Keane at Burnley, and to an extent at Everton, is decent when the ball is pumped toward him in the air. He wins it most times. Tick.

At set pieces he is also a threat to the opposition defenders - he more often than not wins the first header, all good so far.

Now then, come the art of defending when the ball is in play, he's a big liability. Seriously, a BIG liability.

If the ball is out on the flanks and his team are being attacked, he tracks his man toward the box. This is when he switches off.
He begins to ball watch, his man pulls off of him, drops off or pulls away, leaving Michael Keane marking nobody but open space.

If a decent winger or attacking player spots this, all he has to do is pick out Keane's player and ........... goal.

Time and time again in his last season at Burnley and to some extent with Everton, he has ball watched loads. A liability. He got away with it, luckily, far too often. He will take you down unless he sorts this part of his game out.

It's a bit like having a Ritchie DeLaet, Jeff Schlupp or Paul Konchesky at centre back - it ain't gonna work.

I can't believe a defender cannot do this basic thing?
It causes panic in the back 4 and with the goalkeeper.

I don't care who you pair with Keane, it won't work unless he sorts this part of his game out. It's training basics. He needs talking to constantly on the pitch by his teammates to keep him switched on. Either this isn't happening or he switches off?

If he could get this sorted in his game, and quick, then i think you have a good player.
Until then, no thanks.

Would rather have Robert Huth or Wes Morgan in there by a country mile, and they are both getting on in terms of age for their position.

Offensively, i'd give Michael Keane an 8 out of ten.
Defensively, a 5 at best. He's not England class.

On current attributes, you would have to say that Harry Maguire is worth between 40 - 50 million.
Michael Keane - about 15 at most.

No thanks.

Still think Keane is a good player - Everton have been a bit shambolic this season and it just hasn’t worked out for him. Let’s be honest we’d all have been delighted if we’d landed him last summer.

If he’s going cheap we’ll be looking for a CB in the summer (Wes 35, Huth 34, Dragovic loan ending) - a Keane-Maguire partnership could be interesting...

Exactly, could be an option for us.

Hold on a minute, didn’t you say earlier he can’t defend?

Erm.... nope

When we were looking to buy keane
There were not too many on here opposing the buy
@ £15million? Then the price went to £18 that rudkin
Pulled the plug also I think our top ave wage
was £40k a week so possibly a problem there as well,

But @ £15/20 m,
and get him in and back up to speed
Would be an excellent buy as long as we buy dragovic

McGuire,dragavic,keane

Huth,morgan,dragavic ,keane
Either way useful squad member.

I love the source of this apparent desire to sell.

I've no desire to sell at all
Just covering all options
Do you know the clauses in the McGuire contract??

Is this a Valentine's day question? If so, I'm struggling to see how anyone can pick Maguire.

No, the apparent deal Everton would do to shift him on.
