There is a real issue and looming crisis on news media. Tomorrow Google chrome is updating to incorporate an automatic block on intrusive ads. Full page take overs auto-playing video with sound etc all blocked by default. This is going to be a bloodbath in the next year or two as sites fold. As the ad rates for normal ads are about 1/10th of the horrendous ones.

For sites like the Daily Record, it is easier to write a 200 word article on a rude word appearing on countdown, or a 10 image gallery(10 pageviews) on how these 1980's celebrities have aged. Economically flying someone out to cover ethnic cleansing Myanmar and writing a comprehensive piece on the state of affairs is just never really going to happen. So we just end out with more garbage like time travelling you-tubers .
